A mixed bag

This was the view from our balcony earlier in the week.  This little tree was sporting her best fall colours and hanging onto her leaves so tight against the wind.  Most of the trees around her had lost theirs.

This little baby was delivered on the weekend - a Brother CS6000i - and now I'm having fun learning all her little ins and outs.  She does everything PMS Albatross was supposed to do and cost less than half the price.  She even has a few more frills than PMS did.

So far there has been no
swearing - hers OR mine!

I'm not quite finished with this page for the quiet book but close enough to show you.  The pieces are backed with velcro and act like a jigsaw puzzle.

    1. I couldn't resist sharing the Betty Crocker post - it was just too hilarious to keep to myself!

  2. Okay dear... the danger in posting all those interesting links is that we'll wander around and get lost, and forget to post here to thank you for them. Loved the Skeptic Photo site. John takes some great (and in this case, entertaining pictures). I decided to post this before checking out Lauren's blog. Sounds like I might be there a while, too. So glad you've got a sewing machine that doesn't trigger swearing! When is the burial at sea for the PMS Albatross?

    1. Glad you find something interesting in the links! As for a burial, she's gone, gone, gone and it was a case of 'don't let the door hit you on the backside on the way out'!

  3. I'm so glad you got a new machine! I also realized that I never responded to your email about lip balm. I'll do that shortly.

    1. Ah - but around here you could be charged for littering. At any rate she's gone and most definitely isn't welcome to return!

  6. That little tree is the prettiest Fall colors I have seen this year. YAY! Congratulations on your new Brother sewing machine. Love the quiet book puzzle page. WOW on the Skeleton Halloween display. Sweet little acorns. I used to have zillions of acorns every year at my last home but sadly none here to be found in this high desert. Happy Sewing Dear...<3

    1. I agree about that tree - it had all the colours all wrapped up in one pretty little package. She lost some of her 'coat' in the windstorm a couple of days ago but she's still bravely hanging on.

  7. Good to know the Brother is working as expected and that you have years of enjoyment with it. I'm in love with your Quite book jigsaw page. It's a corker! As my favourite season is autumn, I can say the colourful tree is far better than our coastal grey/greens. So pretty.

    1. So far so good! There's been no swearing anyway, so that's a good sign. As for the quiet book page - I just found a coloring book page online and used that for the pattern. I just tried to make sure the cut line wouldn't end up going through his eyes!

    1. That little tree is one of the prettiest I've seen this year and there has been a lot that were pretty spectacular. I just like it because it's so little and putting on such an amazing show.

  10. I'm so glad you like the Brother. I was thinking of you when I was using mine to stitch a purse I am just finishing. it's made from thick upholstery fabric. The only time mine has ever barked at me is when I was stitching the shoulder strap (4 Layers of fabric) to the side seams which added 2 more fabric layers. Thanks for the links. I love Halloween and those skellies were a treat.

    1. I don't think too many machines would be overly thrilled with stitching through that many layers. But having said that, my old Janome would have and been quite happy. Remains to be seen what happens with this one when I start doing landscapes where I'm working with lots of thread and multiple layers.

  11. Ooooh I love the look of your new machine! It's funny, I have a Pfaff 7570 embroidery machine and recently decided I wanted to get back to using the embroidery feature/attachments. When my kids were little, I made most of their clothes and embroidered a lot of them (especially my girls' outfits). WELL, I have forgotten how to use everything so I started messing around and reading the manual and then realized I had lost the software disk which led to realizing the cable to connect computer to machine was broken which led to realizing that this machine is . . . almost 25 years old!! How can that BE??? I was able to locate a cable BUT, now have to locate the software on eBay or somewhere. Not sure it's worth all that hassle to download designs. All that to say, I briefly considered looking a new ones BUT I love my Pfaff and when I talked to a dealer, he said DO NOT get rid of it 'cuz they don't make 'em like that any more' hahahaha! Boy do I feel old . . . Can't wait to see all of the things you produce with that baby! And LOVE the skeletons . . . wow! So funny! Thanks for the shout out on my post! I'm STILL finding great stuff in that old cookbook!

    1. I love the look of her too - my favourite colour is blue and that just happens to be the color on her control panel - win/win! In my experience with machines the older ones ARE the best (and I would give a lot to have my old Janome back) and well worth fixing if at all possible. So many of the parts they use now are just plastic and not meant to last. Another case of build in obsolescence I guess. And you're welcome for the shout out - your post was just too good not to share!

    1. That wee tree is still hanging on to most of her leaves, despite a lot of wind and rain and a couple of frosts (and a dusting of snow). She's a brave little soul!
