Progress on a rainy day

First of all, thank you so much for all the happy anniversary wishes for Jack and I.  We had a lovely weekend - two meals 'out' on Saturday  and a relaxing day on Sunday.  Perfect way to celebrate!

I managed to do a little more on the latest barn...added the fence posts, the birch tree, and a shrub on the right.  Both the tree and the shrub need more work before I will be happy with them.

Sorry about the color in the photo -it's dull and
rainy here so the light isn't good.

- I don't often share anything of this nature on my blog, but I'm going to make an exception for THIS.  Depression still often bears the stigma of being a taboo subject - something to be hidden, something to be ashamed of.  Yes, this particular post I've shared discusses it from the standpoint of postpartum, but the symptoms are the same.  I have read a lot on the subject and have to say that what was written here is remarkable and one of the best things I've read.  I know personally how debilitating this disease is - I know what it's like to live with it - I know what a family goes through - I know the denial, the refusal to believe and the shame.  I know all too well and if, by my sharing this (and perhaps you also sharing), it helps someone then I am happy.  Don't wait to seek help and don't be ashamed.

Today the quote is from Maya Angelou..."Hate: It has caused a lot of problems in this world, but it has not solved one yet"

  1. You're making progress, Mary Ann, wonderful.
And thanks for the heads up about PPD.
When I was in my baby years, I struggled with that too.
There wasn't a lot of support then. I figured it was something
I had to live with. So my sewing/crafting became a life saver. That
was my drug and therapy and it really did get me through.
Of course faith and family helped too.
It's good to see that there is a lot more support now. We are our
    brother's keeper.

  3. An excellent insight into depression, thank you for sharing this article. Depression is insidious, it strikes wherever and whomever, and I might add a constant recurring sickness in today's society. Your barn's progress is coming along very nicely. ♥

  7. Very good topic to bring up. My mother suffered from depression. I know first hand the trauma that can bring to a family.

    1. I think my mother had it too, although hers went undiagnosed. I had it for nearly three years before I finally got a proper diagnosis - the doctor intitially thought it was PMS.

    1. Thank you Becki. I have realized that the more we talk about depression the better it is for everyone. No longer should it be a taboo subject and sufferers closeted away in hiding.

  10. Well happy anniversary! Good article on depression. When a member of my family was told he did have depression, I was aghast because he was the strongest person I knew. That's when I realized it's not a person's fault because they can't control a chemical imbalance or how their body is made & functioning. They goodness we are given the mind to think through the process to get help.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
