Teeny bit of progress and three's

I'll start with the 3's aspect of my post today.  You know how there's an old adage that things happen in three's?  Well, first came the fender-bender with the car.....then my ceiling light/fan in my sewing room decided to start shorting out, which necessitated a call to the building super to come and fix it.  He came this afternoon and yes, there was a loose wire inside and he repaired it.  Well....I turned it on tonight and, you've guessed it, it's still not working.  Argh!  The third disaster was yesterday afternoon when we were both sitting relatively still and there was an unexplained crash.  Investigation showed nothing....until......DH went into our storage room and realized that a wine bottle had mysteriously turned itself sideways on the shelf and decided to make a run for it.  Literally.  HOW it got turned is a complete puzzle because nobody was near it....nobody had been near it....or anything else on the shelf.

Yesterday was quite warm.  We're told that saunas are good for your health, so after we moved everything out of that room and washed everything (including the walls), we know that the sauna-ish health benefits must be SO good!

That outta be our three!!

In and around all the mopping and cleaning, I did manage to get a little more done on my barn quilt.  I don't know if you can tell the difference from this picture though!

I have a question for you - if you happen to own any books in your collection that pertain to making landscape quilts, which one(s) would you recommend?  And why?  It's something I would like to do more of, but I need some instruction that might help me figure it out.  Thank you in advance!

Today the quote is from an unknown source... "Don't worry about what people say behind your back.  They are the people who are finding faults in your life instead of fixing their own"

  1. Your progress on your barn quilt is looking good, Mary Ann.
Maybe mice were trying to run off with your wine and it just got too heavy for them?
    You never know.

  2. Love the Quote, window box and crafting closet cabinet. Now there is a good tahree for you.
I follow a lady that quilts the pictures like that, I can see her work in my mind but can't seem to think of her name or blog this minuer. I will send you her link when it comes to mind. She is a nice lady and I'll bet she can help you with some question you might have. I think your's is coming along beautifully, especially with you being new to this style. Tried a couple of test rows for a friend once and it is definitely not my cup of tea. And it was not nearly as nice as what you're doing. These people were new to this so it was pretty basic. And it was still hard.
Enjoy the weekend and hope next week is a great one.
    Hugs

  3. Rhonda posted today. Here is a two year old post it was the first one I found. Maybe on a rainy day you can search through her blog. Hope she can inspire. But you are really doing well now.

OMGosh, that storage is to die for!! Your quilt is coming along nicely. I have been collecting fabric when I see remnants to try a landscape quilt. Rhonda must have one heck of a fabric stash. I LOVE the quilts you shared in the links. I'll be interested to see if anyone shares a book recommendation. I think I have a book by one of the crazy quilt artists on Landscape, but have not tried one yet.

    Have a great weekend.
    xx, Carol

  6. I wrote a long comment on your last post but the internet ate it. really! Or more specifically, Feedly did. Anyway, I love how your barn quilt is coming along. Also, I'll check my stash to see what books I might have in the way do landscape piecing. Sorry about your auto accident, but you know you're in good company (probably the great majority of drivers). And that wine bottle.... what about a little mouse?!? Guess who gave me THAT idea??

  7. Ha....my mind is imagining that bottle making a run for it, was it upset by another bottle, it was just too hot and wanted to cool down.......it had a smashing time!

  8. Since you will have already won the lottery when you buy that fold-out universe-in-a-box, be sure to hire someone else to put it together for you! Not a job I'd want to tackle ;)
Very odd about the wine bottle. At least here when something mysterious happens, I can think Piper or Moxie or Della had a paw in it. Even if they are all somewhere else at the time!

  9. I hope that is indeed your "three" - no more mishaps!
Your barn quilt is amazing, truly amazing. Can't help you much with the quilt book suggestions - I haven't seen a landscape book in years but I think Joen Wolfrom had a good one and Valerie Hearder??? My favourite quilt artist was Joan Colvin - love her stuff!

  10. I am no help at all dear however your Barn quilt is coming along very nicely. Three and you are free. I think the cat was offing with the wine while the mice were obtaining cheese. Safety to you and yours Sweet Mary Anne.
