This afternoon I've been having fun, while I sit here and listen to the ice pellets hitting my sewing room window. Instead of worrying about what's happening outside, I've been thinking of summer and piecing my next pillow cover. In case you are new here, I am making removable seasonal covers for a pillow we keep on our couch. So far I've completed winter, spring, fall, and Christmas.
I just finished mounting the summer base onto my embroidery frame and will be able to start stitching later on.
There was a lot of fussy cutting of fabrics in order to get this looking the way I envisioned (or at least close to it). Hindsight being what it is I now wish I had flipped the bottom two pieces of the 'water' but there's no way I'm taking it apart at this point!
Now where did I put that sailboat pattern?......

I am not apt to be posting over the weekend, so I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and blessed Easter.

Here's another piece from the autograph book (dated July 1, 1939)...
Life is like a journey
Taken on a train
With a traveler at each window pane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere,
never knowing you.
But if fate should place me at your side
Let's be pleasant travelers,
Life's so short a ride.
It looks lovely as it is, but I can't wait to see what stitching you'll be adding.
ReplyDeleteLovely quote too.
Your pillow covers are very clever. Summer with the beach is heaven and I know you will make it very special with your embroidery. Happy Easter and May Spring bring you Warm Hugs of Sunshine.
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH!! This block sure caught my eye. The sun is my personal symbol of Hope. I am going to LOVE this block. I personally think you got the water right. I was raised on Lake Michigan and always wondered why the water on the horizon was so calm when the water near the shore was so "choppy". Perfect summer block. What was your trick to those curvy seams. I'll have to go back and see a close up.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter. Sorry you got the ice. That storm totally went north of me.
xx, Carol
OK, I saw the top stitching. Cool!
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to seeing how this progresses
ReplyDeleteI love to work on my sewing/crochet on cold wintry days. Stay warm and creative, my friend!
ReplyDeleteNice idea to have seasonal changes.
ReplyDeleteOn my blog you mentioned making an embroidery frame using PVC piping. I can't find any instructions anywhere! Any source to look at?
The bottom piece looks like foam as the waves roll onto the beach. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
The base for the Summer pillow cover looks fabulous and I can't wait to see it with all your gorgeous embellishments! Have a most wonderful Easter weekend. I hope the weather treats you kindly! Christine x
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you too. Pillow cover looks good so far. Have fun stitching it.
ReplyDeleteI think the water looks just right...the front bit is the surf, the middle is the water that's making the surf and the dark is the waves building up.
ReplyDeleteHappy Ester to you too. It seems too early to have it in March but what the heck.
I like it too, but I do understand what you're saying. But I would not change it either.
ReplyDeleteI too, think the water is perfect as it is. The blue and white water fabric to me speaks of the waves breaking on the sand. It is lovely and I can only imagine how gorgeous it will be when you begin to add your embellishing magic. Have a lovely, lovely Easter, Mary Anne.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is fantastic before the stitching. Beautiful! I hope you are having an amazing Easter! :)
ReplyDeleteIce pellets?!?! Glad to hear you were inside making hay while the sun.....oh, never mind. I thought I had a good quote, but maybe next time ;0)
