Of course

Yes, of course you know what's happening here in the Chez Magpie studio - there's a beginning on a new landscape.  This one, I think, will be aptly named 'The Red Chair' (for obvious reasons).

Sorry about the basting threads!  I forgot to take the picture before I put them in.

- Many of you know I like recycled denim projects so I had to share THIS.

- Have a look through the galleries of THIS artist!

- THIS would be handy for so many different things.

- THIS is certainly intriguing but I don't think I'd have the patience to try it myself.

Today's quote is from Paul Avellino...."Nature doesn't just accept diversity - it survives because of it.  Strip that away, and ecosystems collapse.  Maybe it's time some people stop pretending humanity works any differently"

    1. Thanks Linda! I wish I could be sitting in that red chair by the water for real.

  2. I love the red chair! The denim door mat is a clever idea but that's a lot of heavy-duty stitching. The mosaic art is beautiful.

    1. I toyed with making the chair another colour but somehow it had to be red. I'd like the door mat, but don't want the work of making it.

  3. I made various things with pine needles in a workshop taught by great basket artist Sue Smith from California. She brought supplies of long pine needles because she'd be forewarned that they didn't exist here. Plenty of evergreens with tiny needles. Id always wondered how you could weave them then I used these massive long needles, much easier. I don't do them now because I don't want to buy natural materials, and I'd have to!

    1. I really don't know where I'd find the proper pine needles here either, but I was thinking of your basket when I shared that link.

    1. Thanks Julierose! The rocks still need to have some of the trapunto technique added to give them more dimension (which, sadly, would only show if you were viewing this piece in person). Good weekend wishes to you as well.

  5. your red chair made me laugh out loud - we were looking for a folding chair to take (for a particular sweet little old woman ... let that sink in ... bwah ha ha - now THAT should make you guffaw) on our saturday commitments and found beach chairs that were shaped the same way ...... thought i would never get up out of it to leave the store - sheesh!!!

    1. If we had the long pine needles locally it would be fun, but I'd have to search for them.

  9. There is nothing that says summer more than an adirondack chair, especially on a dock.
I just don't dare sit in one for fear I can't get out of it.

Sherryofcreateology: Hello Dear. The Red Chair is going to be very interesting along that peaceful water. Lots of fodder to ponder. Another great quote. Thank you Mary Anne. I do not know how you find the time to be so productive. XOXO

    1. I'm having fun with the red chair. As for finding time - it helped that I have a Resident Chef and I can usually manage about five hours per day in my sewing room.

  11. When we would visit various National Parks, we would look for the "red chairs" and take pictures of one or the other of us sitting in it. Lovely landscape.

    God bless.

I used to make appalachian baskets and loved it and them. Your red chair is well done! graphically striking composition. I like seeing progress photos
the quote is so well said, and so true but humans are so fearful now of anything different. People got mad at the restaurant cracker barrel for including a vegetarian sausage ..... that they didn't HAVE to order.... that they stopped going there. Augh!

    1. Glad you enjoy the progress photos - sometimes there's not much else for me to mumble about (tomorrow's post will be ample evidence of that one!).
People are utterly unreasonable over the stupidist of things - even vegetarian sausages.

  13. Hi MA:
This would be a perfect seat to enjoy a lazy day on the lake. It's going to be wonderful. (I did leave a comment on your "deck board stitching" and hope it came through.)
    Hugs,
    xoxo
