Today I'm giving you the quote first and it comes via Jocelyn and is attributed to Brenda and the Serial Starter via THIS video...."Some day needs to be now". Take some time to think about that one. How many of us are saving 'special' fabrics or yarns (or anything else, really) for 'some day'. Some day when we're better at what we do, some day when a perfect project comes along, some day when our skills are good enough. What if that some day never comes and you never got to use that wonderful 'thing' that you wanted so badly? Will it be appreciated by the next generation or simply tossed aside as just something Mom collected. I, myself, have a bad habit of hoarding special threads that are just taking up space in my stash. So, folks....USE that special thing and love the using because you deserve it.
I'm still cross stitching the second bookmark so nothing exciting to show you there. Over the weekend I put on a cauldron of water and avocado pits and tried dyeing some fabric and this was the result...
No clue what I'm going to do with it now, but it was a fun play anyway.- THIS might be a fun little project you could do for Easter.
- Finally! A good use for vodka HERE.
- Sometimes an idea pops into my feed and I wonder whyever I didn't think of it. THIS is one of those things! I don't wear an apron but I know people who do and this is something they might appreciate.
- If you like cats, perhaps you'd like to make THIS.
- HERE is another great use for scraps!
So true about saving things "until"....I am trying to use my saved special fabrics and in general anything that I've
ReplyDelete"put away" more. I have some really old photos of my long ago family generations and I am using them in my journals and enjoying them instead of just leaving them in an old album and never looking at them...tempus fugit faster and faster and the days like shadows pass...hugs, Julierose
I am going to work harder at this concept going forward. I've been trying to 'shop my stash' if I can but there are still special things that I've saved for 'until' and I'm going to start using them.
DeleteI like the idea of using the best things now. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteMe too! It's going to be hard to change old habits but I'm surely going to try.
DeleteLove that stitched thistle in the last post. How great to try dying fabrics. Some folks in the cross stitch world dye all their own fabrics and have such neat results. Yes, to getting out the special whatevers we are keeping for some day...now to really doing it!
ReplyDeleteThe thistles have been fun to stitch, for sure. I have finally convinced the RC that avocados are fit to eat so I had to play with the pits to see what happened.
DeleteOh, yes. Use the good china. Wear the nice blouse. And cut that fabric! (Now to do it.) Thanks for the link to the Peeps mug rug.
ReplyDeleteWe actually use my mother's 'good' china everyday. I was going to buy new dishes at one point and then remembered that I had stored Mom's dishes and they never saw the light of day. That's when I decided that we would just use them and enjoy them. Cutting the fabric might be a little harder!
Deleteavocado pits ... pink ... i had NO idea - i'm allergic to avocados, but i'm NOT allergic to pink - i lurve pink
ReplyDeleteThat's where you and I differ - I've never liked pink unless it's fuschia. I think my dyed bits will end up in a landscape one day.
DeleteHi MA it's LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteI love your links, and that cat one that tessalates... very cool
gonna go check out some more posts
Hi LeeAnna - glad you found me!
DeleteWhat a lovely pink colour. As usual your links are so very interesting.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It was surprising how much colour I got from just 4 pits. Glad you like the links!
DeleteHi MA: The color fabric is lovely, your Thistle book marks are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the links you find.
Catherine🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
I was surprised at the colour that came out of those avocado pits. I expected some pink but not to that degree
DeleteI didn't know avocado pits make a pink color, interesting! I think we all have something we want to 'save for later'. Yes, we should use it now, not wait!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm guilty of saving things so I'm planning to work on actually using them and enjoying them.
DeleteI do try to use the "good stuff" even if there is a risk of waste/destruction involved...pulling out "special" fabrics for sewing attempts comes to mind. Sometimes it's a matter of finding an equally "special" use, like making my grandmother's silver spoon the official stirrer for making hummingbird food :)
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of using your grandmother's spoon as a stirrer for hummingbird food - that's wonderful! We're currently using my mother's 'good' china every day and it makes me happy.
DeleteThanks for the advice. Still hard to use, because so many times, almost immediately a project comes up and I find myself saying, "If I hadn't used that fabric."
ReplyDeleteI guess you could look at it that they make new fabric every day and there's likely something just as special just waiting to live with you.
DeleteDying fabric is something I have never gotten into.... but it does look like fun! Your piece looks lovely, I'm sure you'll find something special to do with it! xx
ReplyDeleteI don't normally dye fabric (other than the shaving cream version) but thought, since we had avocado pits on hand, it would be a fun experiment.
DeleteA very pretty pink colour! Avocado pits made it pink?!
ReplyDeleteYep - it was somewhat of a surprise to me too!
