pick, pick, pick.....

Yes, I'm doing a lot of picking (or unpicking, however you want to look at it) as I try to remove the waste canvas I used to stitch the sky on the landscape.  I wanted to do a sashiko technique so the canvas was necessary to get the stitches even.  I think I regret that particular decision, but too late now!

Sorry about the terrible picture.  It's snowing here - again - and the light is awful.

- THIS is a really amazing quilted heart design - perhaps a little late for this Valentine's Day, but something to keep in mind.

- I thought THIS was interesting (you'll have to scroll down to read the entire article).

- THIS is beautiful!  I don't have a mantel but there are lots of other uses for it.

- I like THIS too - another great gift idea perhaps.

  1. I like the mini purse, and wonder if I should put it on my list..
About your quotation, yes. Right now I'm scrolling past a lot of crying and wringing of hands among friends. I can't spare the bandwidth just now, using it to keep up my own spirits.

    1. Yes, that mini purse is on my list of possibilities. I agree that there's much conversation about how bad things are but I wonder if the quiet dissent is happening as well. I admire your advocacy - at least you're trying to do something constructive.

  2. Oh-- that un-picking looks like a bear of a project!! I totally unpicked my wonky log cabins (wonky as they were angled and needed wedges for fill-ins!!) because they are giving me a lot of anxiety. I may (or may not) continue and just make regular little cabins for my February block of "Dark Days" comfort cloth project....I figure we have enough anguish to deal with right now so I want/need definitely "comforting" sewing to do....;))) Hugs, Julierose

    1. Yes, the unpicking has given me a couple of sore fingers! You'd think I'd learn to stop before that happens but I'm anxious to get it unpicked so I soldier on and then live to regret it. Comforting sewing is definitely what we need!

  3. Good quote.

I know after all your tedious work there will beautiful stitches for us to ooh and aah over. I've never used waste fabric on emboidery before. I'm curious if it is always tedious to remove, or is it because of the type of stitching you've done in this section? Or is there some other reason?

    1. Waste canvas, depending on how large your project is and how much stitching you do, can be a chore to remove. I like it because it helps my stitches to be more even. Supposedly you can run the canvas under water and it will dissolve but I don't use it that way because often my projects aren't meant to be washed.

    2. I did wonder about dissolvable waste canvas. I can see how you wouldn't want to do that with your art.

    3. Exactly. Water isn't exactly a good idea for some parts of the landscapes so best to unpick by hand.

  4. You continue to keep me guessing on your new piece of work.

  5. I'm so glad you linked to Lucy's blog! I followed her for many years, but somehow lost track at some point and then couldn't remember her address.

  6. After days of clouds we are finally getting some sun. I know how hard it is to stitch when the light is bad or take a good photo.

    God bless.

    1. Luckily the RC bought me a cheap little LED goose neck light that sits on my table while I'm unpicking so I can see what I'm doing. Doesn't help with photos though.

  7. Unpicking is not fun, though a satisfactory feeling when finished and a clear do over is ready. Thanks for the interesting links as always.

    1. No, unpicking isn't much fun but it's necessary in this case. One of the joys of working with waste canvas.
