More pages

I've been spending lots of hours playing  making more pages for the quiet book.  These take more time than what you'd think!

This will be the centre spread.  The dresser has a zipper at the top which allows the clothing (shown below) to be stored.

This page features shapes and colours that are held together with velcro.

I don't know if you're aware that our #1 son is a chef and so I hear firsthand about the struggles that restaurants are going through since Covid became a scourge.  Right now, here in Ontario, they are back to only being allowed to do take outs and deliveries and most of the staff has been laid off.  Fortunately our son still has a job but he's stressed, just like so many people are these days.  I came across this and thought it was worth sharing, if only to spread knowledge about some of the challenges restaurant owners are facing and to explain why so many of them are being forced to close their doors.....

  1. Prayers prices will lower! Wow! $45.00 to $175.00! I imagine there will be many investigations due to price hikes. Not all industries, I believe, have a stake in receiving goods by delivery that warrant jacking up costs.
The transportation delays send home how Very important being vaccinated is!

The mice in the match box is uber adorable! I'd change the creatures to dolls instead as mice creep me out, even as toys. Cartoons, though, I can deal with. :)

    1. I think we're likely naive to expect that prices will lower to the previous rates. If they (meaning the infamous 'they' that seem to rule the world) decide that people will pay the increased prices, why would they have incentive to return to previous ones. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

  2. So sad to see prices going up everywhere. Wonder if they will go back down?
Love your quiet book pages. The dresser looks very realistic.
My family calls a dresser a chest of drawers. For the longest time as a child I thought it was a Chester drawers.

    1. Hee hee - I like Chester drawers - that's fun! I grew up using both names - and there's also bureau, but we didn't use that term.
As for prices, I wonder if they'll go down. I suspect maybe they might a little, but certainly not to previous rates.

  3. That quiet book is quite clever. We've been noticing the rise in prices also. We've also been doing a lot of take out dining since this pandemic started. Trying to help keep the restaurants in business. I just have to stop ordering desserts!

    1. It's shameful how much abuse restaurant employees are facing right now from irate customers who simply don't understand the fact that food prices have risen alarmingly and then get incensed when they have to pay more for their meals.

  4. Very relieved to hear your son still has his job, but disheartened about what looks like price gouging in the food world.

Those mice in a box are sooooo nice!

    1. Prices are rising alarmingly everywhere it seems. Yes our son is fortunate to have a job right now, but he's working absolutely brutal hours. Most restaurants only have two employees on site right now - one to do the cooking and one to take orders and shove them out the door. Not a business that's at all easy at the best of times, but certainly rock bottom right now.

    2. Talk about bilking!! Price gouging when people are struggling--just not fair--we don't get take out as often as we have seen price hikes that are crazy!! We used to do take out at least 3xmonthly--now it's maybe once every month as a treat.
Just not right is it?? I guess that's what they deem "good business" practice, hmph!! Maddening--
Every single thing has gone up...food here is ridiculous..good thing we like leftovers..and soup!
p.P.S. Sorry for the rant--I love how your soft book is coming together...really lovely work
Hugs julierose P.S> sometimes I fear for humanity...

    3. No worries - that wasn't in any way a rant! I posted this as more of a commentary on the reasons why people are seeing hikes in the prices at their favourite eating establishments - it's not the restaurants that are raising the prices just to make more money - it comes from their suppliers. Our son says that they currently just break even and mostly lose money on pretty much every meal they put out and they count on people ordering alcohol in order to make any profit at all. How do they raise their prices to reflect what they're having to pay out without alienating the public from which they make their living. It's a horrible catch 22 and no end in sight. Explains why so many restaurants are going under.

    1. Fingers crossed that the computer is still limping along. Hopefully it will continue but every time I turn it on it wouldn't surprise me if it decides it's had enough.
And yes, I intend to keep making things for the grandies as long as I'm able and as long as they like them.

  8. Oooh... these are the cutest yet! Love the zippered dresser to store the clothes in. Thanks for posting the cost of restaurant supplies. Shocking!

    1. The zipper serves two purposes - the little one can learn to use a zipper and it keeps the extra clothing from getting lost (at least in theory anyway!).
As for the costs for restaurants, I'm sure they're actually much higher than this said. They didn't list the fact that everything (ie. take out containers, napkins, packets of condiments, etc) has risen astronomically too.

  9. Mary Anne I feel so sad for anyone trying to keep a small business/restaurant going in these most difficult times. Prayers for your Son to have less stress as there is nothing he can do to make things better. Your quiet book pages are sew sweet. Stay well and warm my dear.

    1. Yes, small businesses are going under at an alarming rate and no end in sight. Our son finds it nearly impossible to find anyone who wants to work in the restaurant industry these days - nobody wants the long stressful hours.
