I'm nearly ready for the final reveal of the advent calendars and hopefully I'll be able to do a little video to share in the next post.  In the meantime, this is the colourway I will be basing the third advent on...

I will be using the same process and design elements as the other two and the Christmas tree will be identical to the others as well.  The ornaments themselves will be stitched using these colours as my inspiration.   A little more feminine in look I think.  Now the hunt is on to find a piece of Christmas-themed fabric in these colours.  Might not be so easy to find!

I made a pocket for the back of each of the calendars which will hold the ornaments when they're not in use.  As per my norm (!) I ended up cobbling together leftover bits of fabrics to make them.  Luckily I was able to find JUST enough scraps!

Today's quote...."The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.  The second best time is now"

  1. That's a great color combination. I hope you can find just the right fabric. Great job on the much needed pockets! I will be watching for the video!

    1. I hope I can find something too - there are lots of Christmas-themed fabrics available but most of them seem to tend towards the more traditional colours.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the video - and if it does happen, be prepared because it will be VERY amateur-ish!

  2. Very nice. I think there is holiday fabric around or should be.
The link to crocheted butterflies! They are gorgeous, and a great item for a wedding favor.

    1. I love those beautiful butterflies - and you're right to think they'd be perfect for a wedding.
As for holiday fabric - the search is on.

  3. Love the colors chosen for the next calendar. I used the "Fidget Quilt" project back in March-April to teach a unit of sewing skills to the Christian Academy. Very successful idea. Just this week 2 of the students came to my home to impromptu create and we were able to refer to how tabs were made for their quilts, and use same intructions for the handle Mom was making for her casserole carrier.

    1. I like the new colours too - not ones I necessarily would have chosen if left to my own devices, but I know I'm going to enjoy working with them.
As for the Fidget Quilts, I think they're a great idea. Would definitely use up scraps of stash and serve a good purpose at the same time.

    1. Don't hole your breath about said video!! If I get it to work it will be VERY unprofessional I know, but at least I'll try.

  5. Looking forward to the reveal Mary Anne and I love the colours you have chosen for the more feminine version of the calendar. I think Anni Downs (Australian designer) often has softer colours in her Christmas collections and I think I may have some in my stash. As I will be shortly decluttering the stash due to a move of house shortly, I would be happy to donate some, just let me know! Hugs Christine xx

    1. They are going to be fun colours to incorporate into the new calendar for sure. I think they are rather Victorian but a more modern take. I must admit I'm relieved that they haven't chosen to go 'girlie pink' because I would certainly have a hard time working with those colours!
Thank you for the donation offer - will let you know!

  6. Lovely soft feminine colors and they will be a joy to stitch with. Fabrics are fun to search for and I have had wonderful success with equilter.com which also has a color matching feature. Oh how I love those butterflies. Your advent calendars are timeless holiday treasures.

  7. I'm catching up backwards on your posts. I guessed correctly that the pockets on the back were for the ornaments. :) I love the color palette for the next ornaments. Very sweet and feminine.

    1. I like the new color palette too, even though it's not one I would ever choose if left to my own devices. It's going to be interesting to see how the ornaments turn out.

    1. I know kids well enough to know that the ornaments would be lost without some method of corralling them. Not to say, of course, that they won't get lost anyway!

  9. I can't wait to see you create the 3rd advent with those beautiful colours!
The pockets are perfect, I was wondering were they were going to be hiding.

    1. I'm looking forward to working in this color scheme too - to me, it reminds me a little of some of the Victorian era, but with a more modern twist.

    1. Thanks Judy - I have lots of time to find the fabric I'm hoping for because the baby hasn't been born yet and she won't need the calendar for a couple of years.
