Just hangin' out in the sun

PLEASE NOTE............
Please read Becki's comment below and let me know
what you think of her suggestions re checking out my links.  Is anyone else having
problems
going back and forth between the links
and my blog?
Majority will rule because I can do it either way.
I'm here to serve!

I made this little guy for our #3 grandson.  He's only about 3" high (the penguin, not our grandson!).

All scrap yarn and the pattern is free from Lion Brand Yarn and can be found HERE.

  1. Aww, what a cute little penguin. And you know... I'm always happy I when I click on your artist links. Frozen textiles was fascinating. Will scroll through her other galleries after I post this, 'cuz if I don't I'll get lost in the pictures and forget to come back here. Can I be a little presumptuous and offer a tip that will help people like me get back to you easily? When you post a link, I believe you'll be given a choice to have the link open in a new window (the choice shows up at the bottom of the little pop-up window where you copy and paste a link - and I think once you check it, it will become the default). Then, when guests are visiting your blog, we can click to our heart's content on links (each link opens into it's own window) without the reader being taken away from your blog. Try it and see if it works.

    1. Hmmmm....when I click on the links when I'm on my blog they open in a new window and all I have to do is click on the left-facing arrow in my task bar along the top to go directly back to my blog. I tested your suggestion and it's virtually the same result - it's a two-step process either way (at least it is for me). Could you check out that little left-facing arrow Becki and let me know if you have it and if it works for you? I hesitate to change things but certainly will/can if it's easier for everybody.

    2. Well, this is so weird, Mary Anne! Yes, it does do this, so you're doing exactly as I described (or did once upon a time and that is your default like it is on mine). I must have gotten your blog mixed up with someone else's (anyone else's, it could have been because so many people don't have their links set this way).

I'm sorrry you had to ask others for feedback, as this little exercise, it appears, has been only for my benefit. Now I'm going to have to figure out another excuse for getting lost in the wonderful links you provide and losing my way back here to comment. Carry on, friend!

    3. You may want to just delete my first reply to your comment just above this. I was momentarily confused. What I'm suggesting is that you can set the default (in the pop-up where you create the link) to open up a link into a separate window (or tab). It's called a "new window" in the pop-up box Blogger provides for creating a link, which is why I used that term. I think "separate window" (or "new tab") is clearer, though.

You're exactly right - when I currently click on a link on your blog I get a new window (which momentarily replaces your blog page - until I click back). A separate window (or tab) keeps your blog page right where it is, while a new (or separate) window opens for the link. What I like about this, is that as a reader and commenter, I don't have to toggle back to your blog (and close the page that was linked to) to leave a comment.

I'm going to try to write a blog post on this and show what I mean. It may take me a day or two to get that done (and I'm going to have a reason to learn how to do a screen shot - lol), but maybe that will show and explain better what I'm talking about.

    4. No worries Becki - it's made for some interesting discussions both on here and behind the scenes. It appears that the majority are okay with the status quo so I will leave it this way. Let me know if you have any further issues and we'll go from there. I'm just glad you questioned it!

    5. Screen shots are not in my wheelhouse because I suspect I would need a fancy phone for that. I think. I have decided, after reading all the comments, and some behind-the scenes discussions that I'm going to leave things as they are and hope for the best for everyone.

    6. Oh my goodness... I just wrote the post on my blog about link options, and had no idea how simple taking a screenshot is! I can't believe it took me so long to even look into that. Anyway... if you're interested in better understanding what I'm talking about, I hope you'll check out my post (best done when the fog of this little thread is past). But if you don't, that's okay, too. I'm a little sorry I took so much space here bringing it up. It's just that you regularly provide so many great links that end up sending me away from your blog and then I forget to come back to comment, I thought I'd share a way to help prevent that sort of thing. It's in no way meant as a criticsm, please know that.

I see I can delete any comments I've left, but I think I'll leave it up to you whether or not to delete my first reply (that I left to your reply). I was momentarily confused and I'm sorry that this little thread is confusing because of that.

    7. I will check into it Becki and see if it makes a difference to my viewing of links. Stay tuned!

    1. I liked the wee penguin too - hopefully our 'little' likes him too. Thanks for your input re the links.

  3. When I go to a link on here it takes me to a new page and then I have to click on the left facing arrow to get back. So I tried Becki's idea on the last post I did on my blog. Go see. The first link "Jill Maas" in just a regular addition of a link. If you click on it it takes you away from my blog. And then you have to back arrow to go back to it. Then try the test link. I used the option "open in a new window" You see that my blog stays open and also the link opens. Is that all clear as mud ??? :) https://mytategallery.blogspot.com/

    1. It doesn't appear that way on my screen for reasons I can't comprehend. Thanks for your input Mary Ann!

  4. Hello Mary Anne Dear. I never have any issue with clicking your many and informative links and then clicking the left arrow to return to your blog. If...I have gone down a rabbit hole clicking too many times on an interesting link, I merely reclick your blog and I am returned right away. Little will love this tiny penguin. I love Amigurami but have not tried to crochet such tiny little stitches with my clumsy fingers

    1. Thanks Sherry - good to know you don't have any problems. Mary Ann (of the comments) suggested it might make a difference if you're using a computer/laptop as opposed to an Ipad. As for the penguin being small stitches - it's actually made with worsted weight yarn so not small. I just use a hook that's one size smaller than the one recommended by the yarn manufacturer.

  5. I haven't had a problem, because I must admit that I read the post from your email and click the links from there, so as it's opening in a whole different program, all is good. I do understand what's going on here, but clicking the "back" button should work just fine.

    1. Thank you for weighing in! I use the 'back' button and it works for me, but I'm using a desktop computer. There's been some discussion about whether it's different when using a desktop as opposed to a laptop or other device.

  6. Such a cute penguin!! I wonder if my crochet abilities are up to this.... with regards to links, I do always make sure they open in another window so that people don't lose my webpage... but it really is up to you :) xx

    1. Thank you - he is cute for sure. As for the links debate - are you using a desktop or laptop? I'm curious now to know if that's the issue.

I never have any problem getting back to your blog with the left arrow click (laptop), but it probably is easier for others the other way. Whatever you decide, and it's YOUR blog! LOL!

    1. Thank you for weighing in Cris - I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I just want to make it as easy as possible to navigate my blog. I think, by all I've heard so far, that the left 'back' arrow is working for the majority so I will hold onto the status quo.

  8. I'm one of those in the habit of exiting out a window when I'm done instead if backing up. When I do go to a link you offer it doesn't open a new window for me. When I'm done looking and exit, Ive lost your site too. I then have to go back to my blog where I have your link in my favorite blogs and open your blog again in a new window. I do use the feature on my blog to open links in a new window.

    1. Either way, it seems to be a two-step process and whether you simply exit OR back up by using the 'back' arrow button or the other suggestion, it amounts to the same thing. I think. Maybe. Or then again....maybe not. I do think my brain hurts trying to understand/figure all this out so it's the best for all!!

  9. That is a cute little penguin. I don't mind having to click the back button - but I do find it more convenient to have the links open in a separate window so that I can leave them open and get back to them when I have time. I use a laptop and I'm used to going back and forth between tabs. If I open your links and then x out of the tab instead of using the back button I lose your blog and have to start all over again. Either way - it's easy to navigate, you just have to remember what you're doing.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
