and....another page....

This is the latest in the series of pages for the quiet book...

Kids these days seem to live in velcro shoes and I can understand why, but still - they should know how to tie them too!

Today's quote..."Someone once said: If you look at the people in your circle and don't get inspired, then you don't have a circle you have a cage"

  1. I agree about tying laces! The baby quilt is the exact pattern my sister used for our 50th anniversary quilt a few years ago. Mine is also blue with white. The white has tiny gold hearts as it is a golden anniversary. The back of mine also has pieced: Canada 150, Cooper 50. Thanks for those links, especially the quilt one.

    1. That quilt pattern would be perfect for a wedding celebration - no matter what the year number. Perfect choice by your sister and being able to find fabric with little gold hearts was a huge find!

  2. Another cute activity page - and yes... learning to tie all sorts of things is a necessary skill. Okay... I don't know if I like the baby or the hat better either, but I think I need to try to make that! And watching the i-cord video may have just changed my life. I had no idea how simple those were to knit! I bought a little i-cord maker which is nice, but those cords have to be attached (or just used as a drawstring). Knowing how to knit one as an extension of the knit fabric I'm already creating is a great thing! I do wish he showed how to do that, but I'm figuring the instructions for the hat will get me to that point.

    1. There are so many modern 'conveniences' that seem to mean the younger generation will never know how to do the 'old' way. Case in point...will another generation have no clue how to read cursive writing and have to rely totally on computers? What will they do when they're confronted with a written document I wonder. I agree that i-cord is pretty easy to do.

  3. I agree. Kids should, need to learn to tie. We don't use velcro on gifts.

  5. My knitting group was just talking recently about making pom-poms, and why on earth there are pompom makers. They're so easy to make with a bit of cardboard. My son also commented later that he couldn't see the point of a single use gadget. He likes everything to be like a Swiss army knife!

And why buy templates for epp?? It's actually fun to convert old cards and that kind of thing into templates. All kinds of interesting history in mine. They're not hard to cut accurately.

    1. I'm so non-savvy that I couldn't figure out how to USE a pom pom maker. It's cardboard for me too (not that I make them very often, but still). Nor can I imagine buying templates for EPP when there's such a glut of free cardboard available.

    1. I wonder if we're creating a whole generation of kids that won't know how to tie shoes.

  9. That’s a great (and necessary) page for anyone! Just like telling time by the hands of a clock (instead of digitally) and reading/writing cursive.

    1. For sure - I wonder too what today's kids are going to do when they run into a cursive-written document and aren't able to read it. Scary thought!

  10. That's a great page to add to the book. A skill that needs practice. Love that quote and I love that shawl.

    1. Not sure that the age level the book is targeted to will be quite ready to learn to tie shoes, but it's a fun thing to play with anyway.

  11. Oh, I think the art of tying a shoelace is a fabulous skill. It is amazing how these days there are many who cannot tie a pretty bow....it really, really is. Another terrific page for this amazing book!

    1. Shoe tying is become a lost art I think. I'm doing my bit to ensure it carries on (altho' by the time the little one is old enough to be tying shoes, he won't be playing with a quiet book!).
