Fun evening

Last night I was invited to the local evening quilt guild meeting in order to judge (moi?  who knew??) a crazy quilt competition they had.  Several months ago the organizers of the guild offered up a challenge to their members to create something using 'goodies' that were provided.  Each member who wanted to participate was given a brown bag filled with fabrics, beads, and other treasures and the members were sent home to be creative.  The results were pretty amazing and it was a difficult job to choose just three that were winners.  I bent the rules somewhat and not only chose three, but also chose a couple of honourable mentions.

Here are the entries...

It wasn't easy to pick a winner from among all those great projects, but finally I chose the wonderful bunny (in the first photo).  I know, from experience, how difficult it is to create a stuffed toy using crazy quilted elements and there was a LOT of lovely embroidery and embellishment on this bunny.  Definitely a winner, don't you think?

I have an update on my book (remember all that angst I went through trying to insert pictures?)....well, it's in the process of being printed right now and in a couple of weeks I should have them in my hands.  I got the proof copy yesterday and I'm quite happy with how it looks so far.

Today the quote is from Henry van Dyke...."The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another.  The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month"     It appears that Mr. Van Dyke is going to be proven right this year!!

  1. Bunny would have been my pick too. I see how it would have been hard to choose. Lots of work in some of those.

  4. Oh yes, the bunny stood out for me too. I loved it.And yes..so tricky to put together. Love that sewing pouch.I just HAVE to make one for myself.I might make one for auntie for her birthday.I feel like getting back into crazy patch works.I feel quite free after sorting some of my doll gear.I am going to give it to my auntie who went to her Nursing Home this timer last year. She has Dementia, but since taking up doll making again her improvement has been remarkable.
Your transition to a A two bedroom apartment must have been quite a move
We moved from a big house to a compact house with close neighbours. I found that very hard, and very few trees, but the trees have grown, and I'm pretty busy, so not so much of a wrench these days.
Thanks for often commenting on my blog.

  6. How fun! I have heard so many stories about quilt guilds with members that did not approve of crazy quilting. It was delightful to hear this one offered a CQ challenge. Judging those entries would be TOUGH. The bunny really does stand out though, doesn't he? (She?)

Great news on the book, too! That is incredibly exciting!

  7. Hi Mary-Anne, The rabbit definitely looked a winner! The challenge was such a clever idea. I'd like to make the sewing pouch and the teacosy especially but all the makes looked terrific. What clever ladies.

  8. I think it would be difficult to choose a winner in a competition. So much nice work and so much beautiful embroidery. I love the eye candy!
I sure hope your quote doesn't prove to be true! C'mon spring!

  9. So glad you chose the bunny. That would have been my choice too from the pictures you shared. But still it must have been really difficult deciding between them all.
