A question - and yet another yawn-worthy knit

These just came off my knitting needles....
My usual pattern and Kroy sock yarn.

I came across this on Pinterest and was intrigued about the possibilities, but I can't find the originator.  Do any of you know?  I don't want to use the image and then find out I've broken any copyright laws.  I rather suspect it was originally meant to be a quilt pattern so perhaps copyright might not be so much of an issue.  I envision 'lifting' the couple and placing them into a landscape scene.  Thoughts???

And....over the weekend I picked up my new ring which was custom made using 'bits' of gold I had lurking in my jewelry box with the addition of some sapphires (simply because I like them and they are also the stone for September, the month we were married).  It's not a great picture...sorry...

- Although the instructions aren't available for THESE, they show some good ideas for using some of those buttons you have lurking in your stash.

- I rather like THIS and wonder if the technique could be used to create a jacket...hmmm.....

- Those of you who might be interested in weaving would like to see  what THIS amazing artist does (this is only one of her galleries, be sure to check out them all).

- THIS just proves you can make a bag out of pretty much anything.

- HERE is a fun little project that could be adapted to use what you have.

Today's quote...

  1. That does look like a quilt pattern--I will look around too and see what I can find;)))
So far, 18+" of snow has fallen and it is still snowing like crazy--wind howling--sounds like a train...a true blizzard and
white out conditions--we haven't seen a storm like this one in over 10 years here....hugs, Julierose

  2. Interesting question about the design. If you adapt and change it, that might be fair to the original designer. Not copying though.

    1. If I were to use the design I would adapt it to simplify it and I would just want to use the people - not the background as shown. I'm always leery about using something unless I know for sure it's not going to be a copyright issue.

  3. Hi MA, it looks like a Stained Glass Pattern to me. If you're making it for yourself, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Love your new ring. I like Sapphires too and was married in September. I have a 5 year Anniversary ring that Scott bought but now I feel like I shouldn't wear it. Even though we're still friends. I always wore it with my wedding rings.

    1. Hmmm - never thought of stained glass but it is possible. I would be using it for myself, but if I happened to sell it later on, I could have an issue.

    1. Glad you're not bored! I post pictures of the socks just for my own records but suspect it must get boring for some people.

    1. Thank you Debra. I like knitting socks, mainly because they're pretty much no-brainers until it comes to the heels.

  6. i dunno about anyone else, but i have experienced each of those "storms" and the lesson i have learned is that everyone, EVERYONE is fighting demons ... or selling out to those demons ... or both.

anywho, your ring is lovely! and that drawing could be for cutting stained glass, couldn't it? i dunno about copyrights ... but I DO know that there is nothing new under the sun - by the time you get done with it, it WILL be an original.

    1. Pam also suggested stained glass so it could very well be. I'll have to ponder it some more.

  7. Beautiful ring. The socks are really nice. As for the couple, I believe you can design your own couple, similar but not the same without violating a copyright. It is easier that way.

    1. Sadly I can't draw to save my soul so I have to rely on patterns or enlarged photos. I think I can use this couple because I would simplify the pattern to make it easier to create in fabric. I'll play about with it and see what I can come up with.

    1. It certainly would work for a quilt pattern I think. (and I love the ring too)

  9. I agree with Pamela, I think that's a stained glass pattern. Your new ring is beautiful! My birthday is in September so I think the stones are perfect.

    1. We were married in September and blue happens to be my favourite colour so it was a perfect choice.

Sherryofcreateology: MA Dear your ring is beautiful and I love that it represents memories for you and RC. Lovely socks. A couple for your next landscape will be wonderful. Fun links and the button crafts are great. This quote is so on point. We never know what others are experiencing. Being nice is such an easy effort for anyone. Blessings Dear…

  11. Your ring is beautiful - and how special is that!!! I would have never thought to take jewelry I'm not using and have it turned into something I might use. And friend... your socks are never ever yawn-worthy. Pretty stripes. Or maybe I should say handsome stripes. I love the shades of blue.

    1. At least the gold bits I had lying around could be turned into something I can use and enjoy. Much better than lurking in my jewelry box. Glad you don't mind seeing socks!

  12. a google image search shows this as a woodworking pattern. may be titled "an old folks stroll"?? it shows up on sawmillcreek.org as having been done in wood, but not much information on where the pattern is from or by.
    Very pretty ring!

    1. I've seen it (or something very similar) done in wood and also in stained glass.

  13. There's a similar pattern named I-389 Life's Journey on intarsa.com. the people are holding hands instead of arm around each other.
