I've finished two more of the ornament series (or at least they're finished as far as I can go for the moment)....
The search is on for either a frying pan or a rolling pin to add to each one to complete them. The original design called for a flour sack but being that neither recipient is a baker I thought a frying pan would be a better choice. If you want to see the original design, go HERE.And....Resident Chef harvested the remainder of our little balcony garden and we had enough green tomatoes to make these...
DISCLAIMER!!!!
It seems that green tomatoes are slightly poisonous!
Who knew?
It seems that green tomatoes are slightly poisonous!
Who knew?
According to my research, they only bother those who have a sensitivity (much, I suppose, like those having an allergy to certain foods).

Today's quote is from Rithvik Singh..."If you cannot accept changes, you cannot expect growth"
You're really going all out on the ornaments! Keepers. I like how carefully you make them fit the people.
ReplyDeleteIf you happen to go and look at the designer's patterns on Etsy there are lots to choose from to suit pretty much any interest. Today I'll be working on putting the houses together and have to re-size the roof pattern to 'fit' the gauge of aida cloth I used.
DeleteYour 2 little chef ornaments are just beautiful; you are doing a spectacular job on these...nice work hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThey're fun to see completed for sure. Long process but worth it!
DeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteInspiration is catching.
Awww, I say! What a beautiful hat.
Thank you! This sort of thing keeps me off the streets!
DeleteLOL!
DeleteI really like the chef's hats! Awesome job Maggie.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They didn't look finished without the hats even though I know most chefs now don't bother with them.
DeleteI'd probably use that relish on pinto beans. How do you all plan to use it?
ReplyDeleteHmmm--haven't given it much thought! Hamburgers and sausages for sure though.
DeleteOnce again you have created Cross-stitch masterpieces. They are fabulous! The hats are adorable. I haven't seen green tomatoes in shops for over 50 years. They were supposed to be poisonous to humans. I made green tomato jam for some years prior to this.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of green tomatoes being poisonous - eaten them for years and haven't died yet! I just did a google search and it turns out you're quite right, but only to people who are sensitive to them. It's like eating any food that you could be allergic to I guess.
DeleteThe ornaments are adorable - lots of stitching but so worth it - I love them!
ReplyDeleteYes, lots of stitching! Glad they're done.
DeleteI love those little guys, you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you - they were fun to do but time-consuming.
DeleteWell done on getting the Chefs finished! I had know idea that green tomatoes were slightly poisonous although I did know green potatoes are so perhaps it's something to do with photosynthesis? Christine xx
ReplyDeleteI knew about green potatoes but hadn't heard about tomatoes. I suspect the levels of 'danger' in green tomatoes would be dependent upon how much you ate, or if you happened to have an allergy to whatever the aspect of them is poisonous. I suspect it's like being allergic to any other food. I guess we won't be giving any away at Christmas as we had planned, just in case.
DeleteThe chef ornaments are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you - I think they are too!
DeleteThey came out great! Love the hats. Never knew green tomatoes could be poisonous. I know a lot of people like them fried.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with the chefs - hopefully they will meet with approval from our guys. And yes, although I've never had them, I always thought fried green tomatoes were supposed to be good.
DeleteOh thank you for the recipe, I am going to try it this summer! xx
ReplyDeleteJust be sure to read the disclaimer Joy - might be worth taking note of!
DeleteTwo more cute figures, love them! I think a frying pan is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I've ever had green tomato relish and our small batch of tomatoes this year was slim.
The frying pans are on order but taking forever to get here.
DeleteSuch cute little chefs. And I had no idea about green tomatoes. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOur oldest son is a chef and our other son simply loves to cook so I thought they were fitting for them.
DeleteThese little chefs are adorable! So happy to see you stitch my designs, Mary Anne. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAfter I finished them I was able to locate miniature frying pans to add to them. Lucky find!
