Not quite the dance of the sugar plum fairy....

 The nutcrackers are done!

The original design shows a miniature sword but
that might not happen and probably won't be
missed if it doesn't.

Don't forget I'm having a sale on my
landscapes until Oct. 15th!
See previous post for more information.

- THIS is a great new take on the temperature blankets that we often see.  I love this idea and it would be great fun to do if only I could figure out the spiral part of it.  Math is SO not my strong point!!  Beads, on the other hand, I have plenty of!

- I know some of you will be groaning at me posting links to Christmas ideas, but HERE you go anyway!

- THIS is something fun to make for Halloween!

- Have a look at the beautiful beaded creations of THIS amazing artist.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people who were so incredibly affected by both Hurricane Fiona, who devastated our Canadian east coast, and by Hurricane Ian, who caused such devastation in the US.  Hard to believe two such massive storms struck within a matter of mere days of each other.

Today's quote is by Shira Tamir..."Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dance in the wind"

  2. The nutcrackers are great. And they're done! Yes you could definitely do a temperature stitch with beads but you might prefer a simpler design. The trick is to have enough colors for the range, and I expect you have.

    1. Hah hah - not enough beads??? Not gonna happen in ten lifetimes!!!!

    2. Enough colors! You may need dozens depending on the intervals of temperature you choose.

    3. Colours? I got that covered too....in spades.

    1. The pattern called for black thread for the teeth and I knew that would scare me so I opted for using grey which made them a tad less terrifying.

  4. For sword, consider paint and sew on a swivel stick, piece of fabric flower stem or toothpick, after cutting off the sharp part.

    1. I was thinking about a swizzle stick too but I might just opt not to use anything because it would likely get broken with use.

  6. Oh my! Those are wonderful. While a sword would add a special touch, I agree... no one will miss them. I want to make these now! Well done, Mary Anne.

    1. They were fun to stitch but certainly not fast projects by any means.

  7. They look great Mary Anne, well done for getting them finished. I wouldn't worry about the swords they look great without! Christine xx

    1. I figure if the recipients don't know there 'should' be swords, then they won't miss them.

Sherry of createology: MA dear your ornaments are wonderful and I am certain no sword is needed. You do find the most interesting links that beg inspiration. What a lovely quote…it “leaves” my mind with lovely dancing beautiful leaves swirling around.

  9. The more I look at your nutcrackers, the more I like them. When I am out and about, I will remember your quote, and try dancing along with the leaves.

    1. Hope you dance with the leaves, but be careful because they can be slippery!

  10. Good for you on getting those finished. They look like a great deal of work, but turned out beautifully.

  12. Thanks for the shout out! I can send you a copy of the spiral pattern if you like. The nutcrackers look great and I like that you used the gray instead of black for the teeth. It does make them look less scary.

    1. One thing I have to say about nutcrackers - they certainly don't bother to brush their teeth! Thank you for the offer of the spiral pattern - yes please, I would like it if you are willing to share! I've wanted to do a temperature blanket but the cost of the yarn puts me off. Beads I can do!!
