Succumb-tion???!!!!

Remember awhile ago I gave you the link to Rhonda Dort's free online class utilizing vintage linens/hankies/doilies?  I seem to remember also saying that I didn't plan to play along.  Well then, how do you explain this.....

The 'innards' of these blocks are all hankies - most of them once belonging to my grandmother who died in the early 1960's.

And while I'm at it, why not add something else to the mix and start this.....

The sky was created using shaving cream/paint technique that I like to play with because it creates a moody winter look.

We won't mention how much of a mess it makes to do!

Oh, and we won't mention the pair of socks being worked on OR the crocheted afghan being created.

OOOPS!

Today this is your quote....

  1. The new landscape looks interesting. I've heard of using shaving cream to paint on fabric but have never used that method. Good luck. Great bunch of links. Thanks

    1. I like the results of the shaving cream process but it sure is messy!! If you ever attempt it, be sure that you get the unscented shaving cream....otherwise you can't get the smell out of the fabric without numerous washings.

  2. Well, I hope we get to see those socks and the crocheted afghan soon. I love the hanky-center quilt squares. Looking forward to seeing what that becomes. And watching your new barn quilt grow. It's a pretty start!

    1. You'll no doubt see both Becki. I'm happy with the squares too and it will be fun to play with that project even tho' I have absolutely no use for it.

  3. You've reminded me of a stash of hankies I have that my cousin has given me over the years. And you've sure been keeping busy. Love those links - got a few old calendars to do something with. And thank you for the quote.

    1. The hankies weren't doing any good taking up space in the drawer (most of them have been cut into for other projects already) so it's good to use them. Glad you liked the links!

  4. Mary Anne, who have started the new year with a frenzy of beautiful creativity. Your grandmother's precious hankies will look lovely in your new quilt. Love too, the sky you are working on for your new landscape. Isn't it the best fun making a helluva mess??!! Not so much though, cleaning it all up. So many wonderful quotes in the quote.

    1. Frenzy of creativity - or - folly? We'll see. I'm not too worried about it all but surely do wish there were more hours in the day! There's never enough time to even begin to do all that I want to. At least this time while I was in the shaving cream/paint mess I remembered to make more than one so I have some ready for the next project.

    1. I've cut into them for other projects so these are pretty much the scraps. My goal is to at least get the drawer they in to close properly!

    2. I'm new to your blog and not a quilter, but I enjoy beautiful work and creative people. I've displayed my grandmother's gorgeous embroidery over Christmas and I love your use of your grandmother's hankies. Just lovely.

    3. Thank you Inger - I appreciate the comment! It's fun to use the hankies in a new way and certainly helpful in reducing the amount I have stuffed in the drawer.

  6. That's a lovely quotation. A keeper.
And it was only a matter of time before you got back into marbling, such fun, it's like magic, except no elves to do the cleanup.

    1. Oh yes, I do need an elf (or three!) for clean up duties. Sometimes I do miss having a basement where I can do messy things and not have to worry about spilling onto the carpet.

  7. Shaving cream? I'll have a look. Your fabric is really nice. As for the quilting with vintage linens, the answer sounds like a children's book waiting to be written. You write so lovely. I am sure such a book would be fantastic to read.

    1. Shaving cream and cheap acrylic paint from the dollar store - I'm sure there are better types of paint to use but this works for me and the price (and availability) is right. Hmmm - a booK? Don't think so - it's enough to write the blog.

    1. I figured I might as well start off the new year with a bang - or at least with a few new projects to keep myself amused!
