Big Foot?

Last night I finished knitting the first of four pairs of felted slippers.  These look like clown shoes when they're knitted but they do felt down to actually fit our son (size 13 foot).  I have made these slippers for our family for years and there's always special requests for more so I guess they must like them!

The pattern is the 'Felt Clogs' by Fiber Trends.

And, just for fun, here's a picture of a 'before' and 'after' of the slippers, just to show how much they shrink in the felting process...

Over the weekend I also finished making the backing for the vintage linens quilt.  This is a horrible picture but I can't seem to get you anything much better...

The pink section was a piece of fabric I've had lurking in my stash for far too long...the bits of green used up all but one teeny little scrap of that fabric (and it's the one that I used for the cornerstones and final border on the front of the quilt....the sides and top used up some eyelet that was also lurking in my stash.  The entire thing measures about 72" square.  Unfortunately I can't go ahead and quilt it because I don't have enough batting at the moment.  I checked into mail ordering it and at the rate of over $30 just for shipping it's going to wait until I can get to a store myself which isn't about to happen for quite some time due to the lockdowns.  To be truthful I do have a big enough piece of batting but if I want to do any more landscapes I will need it for those.

Here's a closeup of the fabric I used on the back...

    1. Bernie (or at least those mittens) seems to be everywhere right now.
Pink isn't my favourite colour by any means but this project seemed to lend itself to it so I was happy to oblige.

  2. I love the "Bernie" photos--and this is really really cute...
Batting is expensive to get in the mail....

    1. I wonder what Bernie thinks of his current fame.
And yes, it costs more than the batting itself to have it shipped.

  4. Oooh... just as soon as I was thinking, "I'd like to see a slipper after it's shrunk", there it appeared! Thank you for satisfying curious minds in such a timely manner. ;^) And the backing on the quilt - I couldn't quite imagine it before, but now I see that quilt is going to be sweet as can be! The back just continues the sweetness of the front!

    1. Hmmm - perhaps we should be worried about the 'great minds thinking alike' thing? I must admit it always amazes me at just how much the slippers do shrink in the felting process. And thank you for your lovely words about the quilt - it's certainly a departure from what I normally make.

  5. I just ordered some batting from Walmart.ca, along with a few other items, and the shipping was free. Do you have a local Walmart?

  6. Your backing is so delicate looking and certainly matches the front - great that you had enough to finish. I saw that pattern for Bernie and said if I had a yarn stash I would make it cause it's so fun. Maybe someone will come up with a kit. (And I love those denim dogs!)

    1. Thank you Lorraine - I was happy to use up some stash that had been lurking for far too long. As for the denim dogs, of course I love the denim but at first I wasn't so sure about the realism in the eyes.

  7. I see you have a new header up of your newest work. Don't know what I like best about it, stone wall, the animals especially the chickens or the work sneaking in on outer borders, the little cardinals in the tree or the sky work. A tremendous piece.

  8. Your backing looks fabulous. You sure do a wonderful job of knitting and felting to make those cozy comfy slippers for your family. I can see why they request them from you. Amazing denim dog portraits. We have snow here for the second time in three years...very rare but very welcome!

    1. The slippers have been a huge hit over the years so I guess I have a permanent job. The plan is for the whole family to get new ones for Christmas this year but #2 son decided his were getting too well-loved to wear so he's going to get his early. I plan to knit them all and then felt them at the same time because it usually takes three runs on hot water through the machine to felt them properly.
      Enjoy your snow....!!???
