Almost done!

 Yesterday I finished the flimsy....

OH wait!  No I didn't!  I discovered I have JUST enough of the pretty green fabric I used for the little squares to make a 3" border around the outside.  It's like the galloping ick - it just keeps growing and growing!  This will be it though because if it gets any larger it will be entirely too unwieldy to attempt to quilt...

And this is the hunk of fabric I plan to use on the back, provided my stash yields some more fabric to cobble it up to the same size as the front.  I bought this piece of fabric a few years ago and have NO clue whatever possessed me.  I don't even like pink!  It's textured too (ruffled here and there) and so won't be something that could be quilted on a longarm machine.  'Course it might not be quiltable at home either!!!  Methinks I might have to hand quilt this beast and therein lies the next problem.  Hmmm.....wonder if I could try quilting it with crochet cotton....I have lots of that.....

The green you see in the photo will be the additional border I plan to add to the front.  I have JUST enough of it to go around I think ((fingers crossed!!)

Today's quote..."To make a difference in someone's life, you don't have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect.  You just have to care"

  1. It's gorgeous, Mary Anne. That green looks like it will make a sweet border. Can't wait!

    1. I had 'just' enough green fabric to make the border and then I discovered some 3" squares and those have ended up on the back. Now I only have a couple of teeny little scraps left!

    1. Too bad the attitude of caring wouldn't rub off on a whole lot of people these days.

  3. I have been guilty in the past of proclaiming that I don't like pink, but if one looks at lovely old vintage quilts they will almost always have at least some touches of pink. The same is true of flower gardens. One without a pink blossom is dull indeed. Your quilt, with touches of pink is beautiful. I love the backing fabric and look forward to seeing how you handle quilting it. I know it will be good!

    1. Even when I was a kid I disliked pink - at least the pale version of it. This quilt however needed it so who was I to argue. Even better that I can use that piece of pink fabric that has been taking up valuable real estate in my stash for far too long.

    1. There are tons of patterns for his mitts cropping up all over the place! He's a fashion icon!!

  5. I've seen lots of Bernie's today. He was even in front of Cast On Cast Off, a St. John's Yarn Store (which, by the way, is a fabulous place to shop). Good luck with the quilting on your piece.

    1. Yes Bernie does seem to be everywhere doesn't he. He was probably the smartest person at the inauguration - at least his hands were warm!

  6. I love the developing quilt. You sound as if you're still deciding on whether to hand quilt it or send it out.

    1. It won't be able to be done on a longarm machine because there's too many varying weights throughout, along with the fact that the lace and trims are bound to get caught up in the machine. I will stitch in the ditch with my machine and then hand quilt as needed after that.

  7. The quilt top looks wonderful and getting closer to a finish. Once again you have posted some interesting links- I like the needle one especially.

    1. Thank you - it's been a fun project but not one I will be repeating, mainly because I've used up most of that pesky stash of linens I had stuffed in a drawer.

    1. Thank you Joy! I love it too, even though I don't know what I'm going to do with it.

    2. Haha, isn't that always the way?! You'll just have to start using it this winter to snuggle under on the couch... or maybe use it as a table cloth.. or...I'm sure you'll think of something :) xx

    3. Using it as a tablecloth would be a great idea IF we used them. This wouldn't be overly washable (at least not in the context of a tablecloth anyway). I have a horror of turning into my mother who insisted on keeping her tablecloth covered with thick plastic which was nothing but an eyesore.

  9. Oh MA your Vintage Linens Flimsy is gorgeous! I love how you have pieced it all together. I also love your frilly pink fabric. That bottle transformation is to die for. Excellent quote.

    1. I'm happy with how it has turned out so far Sherry but there's lots of room to mess it up with trying to quilt it. As for the frilly pink fabric I ended up zig zagging down the edges of all the frilly bits just so they would lie flat when it's being quilted.

  10. Why...shut your mouth..... not like pink?? Mary Anne, I am shocked. Did I know of this little aberration of your personality, or for the sake of our friendship did I just blot this out of my mind? =) Seriously though, the vintage linen flimsy is gorgeous. And, I must say the lacey pink fabric is perfect. You know it is. May I say the pink teamed with the green is a match made in heaven. Good luck with the hand quilting. Me thinks quilting with the crochet cotton will be perfect.

    1. Oh oh - the truth came out! Yes, pink is my least favourite colour although even I have to admit it has its place. I like fuchsia but have never been a fan of baby pink. Good thing there's lots of other colours to choose from! This particular project just needed pink and I've learned to listen. Still not certain how I will quilt it but as of now I think I'll start by machine stitch in the ditch and then decide what it needs (or shut up and listen while IT tells me!!).
