Something a little different for you

Today, instead of a landscape update (only because it's close to being done and I want to do a 'reveal'), how about a recipe?  We had this one over the weekend and it was delicious!

SLOW COOKER SWEET & SOUR CABBAGE

1 medium head cabbage (red or green...we used red) -  shredded
2 onions, chopped
4 tart apples, peeled and quartered
1/2 c. raisins
1/4 c. lemon juice
1/4 c. apple juice
3 T. honey
dash of allspice
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
Cover and cook on high 3 - 5 hours or until
vegetables are tender

Today's quote..."Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on"

  1. Sweet and Sour Cabbage! Delicious! I wonder if how it would be as a sauce, pureed in a blender.
    The magazine archive is fantastic.

    1. I don't know how it would work as a sauce, but it's certainly worth a try!

  2. First of all I love the quote! And I enjoyed the puppy portraits. And the rooting plants post was very interesting. My Grandmother-in-law, who was the loveliest person I ever met would actually root plants in a similar fashion but she literally just stuck them in the dirt and they grew! Talk about a green thumb. I am fortunate that I still have children from her Mother of Millions plant (which she called "Pregnant Plant"). She passed over 30 years ago and I still miss her....

    1. My mother could do that with plants too - and she had one of those plants for years. I, of course, killed it promptly when I inherited it from her. I didn't know what it was called so I 'did a google' to find out more.

  4. Boy, you're not kidding about leaving crumbs when clicking on that second link. Now, if I could just get a quality download. I remember finding lots of cross stitch patterns in this archive earlier this year, but getting a good enough image to wok from was hit or miss. That said, I'm intending to lose myself in there again - looking at crochet patterns now. :)

  9. I LOVE sweet and sour cabbage. My mom used to make split pea soup a lot and always had sweet and sour cabbage in the bottom of the bowl. We love cabbage at our house. Try sautéing apples and bacon with cabbage....so good!
