A wee little book

I did a bit of a studio clean up (I know - what IS this world coming to!!) and came across something I have been meaning to share for awhile.  Several months ago our honorary member of our little CQTeers crafting group (Liz) sent us each one of her little artist books with the challenge to fill it with something.  It took me awhile to decide what I could do.  I have an inherent fear of defacing books which my mother instilled in me when I was little so it took some mental talking to before I could manage to touch it.  Here's the beautiful handpainted cover that Liz created for my book...
The book measures approx. 5" tall x 4" wide
About the time the book arrived I was in the throes of a somewhat more thorough cleanup of my sewing room and came across what I created in an online ledger class taught by Karen Ruane.  I sat down to look through it and was aghast to discover that the double sided tape that I had used was turning everything brown and was letting go (despite having been assured in the store that it wouldn't do such a thing....false advertising!!).  So...I ended up taking the ledger apart, salvaging what I could and putting them into this new little book (MINUS the double-sided tape I might add!!).  This is the result...

  5. I was also taught not to mark on books and I too, find it difficult to start on a new one. Yours is turning out to be quite nice. Thanks for the links. The art from View From my Window is quite interesting.

    1. Happy to know I'm not the only one that finds it hard to make any marks in books. I can't even turn a corner on a page - obviously brainwashed as a child!

    1. At least I found a way to save some of my original project and fill the wee book at the same time. And the SFSND is pretty amazing.

  8. I am that girl who looks at others murderously who dog ear a book, do not turn the page correctly etc. My daughter has an interesting story of me showing her the art of 'how to turn the page of a book' when she was two!! Needless to say she is rather anal about caring for books as well. =) Your journal book is fabulous. You certainly learnt some wonderful concepts. Did I perchance spot a hexie or two. Tidying up one's sewing room always coughs up some interesting past projects. Loved the link of looking through the window. What a brilliant idea. I would love to stitch a view from one of my windows one day. Your links always inspire.

    1. I think I have permanent ridges in my tongue from biting it when I see my DH leaving a book open on a table or (worse!) bending the spine backwards so it will stay open. Old habits die hard! And yes, you did see hexies and I'm glad you enjoy at least some of my links.

  10. Love your new booklet and how you have managed to salvage much of the original one.
I'm sorry about the double-sided tape ruining the work but thank you for sharing the disadvantage using it.

    1. Depends on the type of double-sided tape you use Maureen. Apparently some are of archival quality and that's not what I ended up getting, despite checking with the seller to be sure.

    1. Thank you Sherry - it was sad that my original book didn't stand the test of time, but at least I was able to keep bits of it to remind me.
