The 'singing' part of this post comes from
something I found floating around the internet...
To commemorate her birthday, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the movie 'Sound of Music'. She received a standing ovation from the crowd and repeated encores. Here are the lyrics she used (be sure to sing along!):
Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
What's the destination of that great purse? it's lookin' good.
ReplyDeleteThat Andrews thing was many years ago. i remember a friend much older than I laughing about it. Neither of us having any use for any of the aids mentioned in the lyrics!
Oh I love your blue purse stitchery. It will be gorgeous when completed.
ReplyDeleteYes I had to sing-along with you. What fun that was. It was like singing a song about myself. Thanks for the laugh.
I love all your beautiful embroidery. This is going to be one very special purse!...The very first movie I saw in a Theater was Mary Poppins. I love Julie Andrews as an actress and a singer. This version of her beautiful song is funny...but a bit sad too! xo
ReplyDeleteGreat stitchin' Sister and the new lyrics are all too perfect!
ReplyDeleteDeb
Lol so cute!!! You have to have a sense of humor about getting older or we would all sit down and cry all the time.
ReplyDeleteTalk of singing....my cousin and I were quilting and singing to the 1950's music she was playing. It makes you forget about your aches and pains.
I will have to pass that song along to my friends.
The Julie Andrews piece was so funny I had to send it to my friends! It's an upbeat view of our natural aging.
ReplyDeleteGen Tracey
