I am pleased to announce that my stash of bulky yarn is practically nil and the end result is these hats destined for donation (two are made using worsted weight)...
I refuse to admit that the space that once was taken by bulky yarn has been replaced with loopy yarn that will ultimately be turned into kitchen scrubbies. No, I won't admit to anything of the kind.
- Many of us undertake to downsize our 'stuff' after Christmas and I must admit I have read more than my fair share of organization how-to books, none of which have really proven to be overly useful. However, I have discovered one approach that really does work (I've read her books as well) and thought I'd point you to THIS blog post from her that I find to be exactly what I need to hear.
- Although Christmas is over there are lots of gift ideas HERE that would be useful any time of the year.
- There's tons of amazing eye candy if you go HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
- THIS is something you might like to take part in over the next few months.
- If you're contemplating doing a 'temperature' project over the next year, perhaps one of the designs found HERE would be what you need.
Today your quote is from Albert Einstein..."Everything that exists in your life does so because of two things: something you did or something you didn't do"
That organizing blog post is good, yes. Especially the decide now aspect. And she does a small focused area, not a sweeping this whole room kind of approach. That's a good link, thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome! Out of all the different approaches to downsizing and organization that I've read over the years, hers is by far the most doable for the average person.
DeleteGood morning! Thanks for the interesting and useful links. Yesterday I sent a package to a newly-connected-with cousin once removed and today I'll mail a birthday gift (an item from the fellowship she and I share). And I have all the Christmas stuff put away except for the wreath next to the front door.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the links! Very happy that the mail is again moving here in Canada, although it does seem to be really slow. I've finally sent the Christmas cards and am operating under the idea that it's better late than never.
DeleteLovely group of hats you've made and also de-stashed that yarn at the same time--"win-win!";))) My problem with de-cluttering is that I don't want to be 2-3 months down the road wishing I hadn't given what ever it was away as I need it now!! As a crafter with lots of interests I think it is really hard to part with useable items.
ReplyDeleteDH and I are starting a general household de-cluttering of our own--so far--old pot and pans to the dump--[Now why didn't I keep a pot for fabric dying??? See what I mean?? ;(((] and that's just one thing....he wants to rent a small dumpster in early Spring ...
We shall see....hugs, Julierose
I read somewhere that you can look at a destashing item and think of the cost to replace it should you end up needing it down the road vs. the cost of storing it just in case. Funny how that mindset helps!
DeleteSuch a blessing you are bestowing on some lucky cold people. Curious.....how long did it take to make all those hats?
ReplyDeleteI had two kids sized hats already made but the rest were done with bulky yarn so only a couple of hours to make each hat. So, it only took me a little over a couple of weeks working in the evenings.
DeleteI have started to tidy the sewing/craft room yet again (seems to be ongoing) and what I have begun to do is just hit one small area at a time and get that cleared. So far not a lot to be donated, but lots actually put where they belong.
ReplyDeleteLove the hats.
God bless.
Taking the backhoe to my sewing room is something I do quite regularly but it doesn't seem to make much difference to the sheer volume of 'stuff'.
DeleteHello MA: Oh my so many hats, you are amazing. I always say i am going to downsize but it never seems to happen.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for the links.

Not so amazing because most of them were made with bulky yarn which works up really quickly. I was just happy to clear it out of my stash.
DeleteWhen it comes to cleaning or decluttering, isn't it great to find something - a method or trick or mindset - that works! I still set a timer, the only part of the Flylady system that really helped me tackle projects in the house. And my Konmari'd sock and underwear drawers are still functional after 3 years :)
ReplyDeleteI tried Flylady for awhile and, although I got her humour, it didn't seems to help in the long run. Never got onto the 'KonM' method although I did read her book. I really like Dana's approach, particularly the container aspect.
