Further on the higher and deeper pile of landscapes, I'm toying with having a half price sale on them to see if I can move a few out of my storage. My issue with that, however, is how to receive payment. Awhile ago I set myself up with a PayPal account and used it a few times. Sadly it was always a huge fight with them to try to get my money out of their hot little hands. I resorted to using the money I'd received as payments towards things I wanted to purchase - all through PayPal. But....they didn't want to let me do that either. It was a battle royal through and through.
Has anybody had experience of setting up an online bank account and accepting payments via that avenue? E-transfer I think it's called?? I have NO clue how to go about such a thing and quite truthfully am leery about online banking in any form (to say nothing about the fact that the RC would be chirping about how unsafe it is and is dead set against me doing such a thing).
What say you?
- I found THIS interesting, but that could be because I've always been fascinated with miniatures. Have you seen the book nook designs out there? I might just succumb to one, but which one is the question.
- For some reason THESE caught my eye.
- If you'd like to make a quick project for Valentine's Day, perhaps one of THESE might be what you're searching for.
- I think I might make myself one of THESE. And I like THIS by the same creator.
- Those of you who might be interested in paper piecing might find THESE designs interesting - and a big challenge.
- I was mesmerized watching THIS artist at work. How simple and yet how incredibly beautiful.
Today's quote..."You have a choice each and every single day. Choose to feel blessed. Choose to feel grateful. Choose to be excited. Choose to be thankful. Choose to be happy."
I'd stay away from PayPal! I keep getting excitable emails from them about my account. I don't have an account! They're pretty disorganized. Why not just do checks? There is a currency issue with the US dollar, but if checks are written as Canadian dollars it should work. I've sold art this way. With people fussing because I don't have PayPal.
ReplyDeleteI do online banking, including bill paying and direct debit and deposit, no problems. Yet.
Yes, I've learned the hard way that PayPal is pretty much a farce, at least for me anyway. Cheques might be okay but not sure how Canadian banks would react to them. I guess I could make a point of asking when I'm next in the bank we use. Sadly, with the advent of online banking, people rarely write cheques anymore and often don't even have any on hand.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know you've had no problems with online banking. We have most of our bills and deposits automatically done via the bank but don't have our accounts tied to them online. RC is dead set against that idea so I couldn't go there even if I wanted to.
Oooh i just Love those fabric bowl/pots--they are simply amazing...thanks for sharing that link..
ReplyDeleteWe are not fans of Paypal at all here; we've also had issues with their deferring payments we thought went through and then getting a bill saying overdue!!!!
Still I know a lot of people swear by it...I wonder if on Youtube there might be some kind of user-friendly tutorial or info about doing business online...good luck ;)))

PayPal has been nothing but a headache as far as I'm concerned so I'm steering well clear of them, despite them being easy to use when it comes to accepting and sending payments. "Easy' in theory, but not so much in the doing it seems.
DeleteTried PayPal to help a few people out that are on ODSP and needed food..... Got rid of it as it started to act up. I haven't done etransfer, but our youngest son has done so often. He does not seem to have had any problems, mind you it is just between family.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks Jackie - any and all info is welcome! I do know that PayPal isn't on my list. I know I can do e-transfers to send $ to family within Canada but not sure how it would work coming the other way and possibly from another country.
DeleteI've never had an online account of any sort to receive or pay money. However, a lot of people around here use Venmo. Don't know if that's available to you. They do keep a percentage fee I understand, because our church set up an account.
ReplyDeleteI just asked Mr. Google and Venmo isn't available in Canada, only in the US. I've figured out a way (I think!) to transfer money within Canada but I can't find a solution to what to do with other countries.
DeleteAND thank-you so much for the paper pieced block site!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteI wish I had an answer for you, but I've never sold anything. I've paid people using Zelle, is that an option?
ReplyDeleteDon't think Zelle is available here in Canada. More and more I'm beginning to think I'm going to be forced back into using PayPal.
DeleteHi: MA: I do use Paypal have never had a problem but hate that I have to have the Paypal account linked to my bank account.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the quilts for sale, if I found one that I had to have I would send a check wait for it to clear your bank and then wait for the quilt to arrive.

Yes, having to have them linked to the bank account is a bit worrisome. If I go back to using them I will keep a small-balance bank account just for that purpose and certainly won't be tying in our main account. Going the cheque route would be doable but I would want to be sure it cleared my bank before I shipped and that's not fair for the buyer. Sort of a catch22. ( If you're interested in seeing what I have for sale, just have a peek at the 'Landscapes For Sale' category in my sidebar).
DeleteE-transfers to you in Canada will work, especially if you already do them with family. You just have to give the purchaser your email account that you use (the one where you receive the notifications of money sent and/or received). It's important to have auto-deposit turned on, you don't want to be dealing with the question/answer thing though, it's best if the money just comes straight through. I would highly doubt your bank would accept a cheque from another country - your best bet is for the purchaser to send a bank draft or money order but even then the bank is likely to place a 25 business day hold on it - there's just too much fraud out there. PayPal is just about the only way to easily transmit money across the border. I understand you don't like it but I've not heard of any other way. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jillayne - you've given me some good information! I've never done an e-transfer so it's all new to me. I hadn't seen anything about turning on any sort of auto-deposit so will have to look into that. By all that I've been seeing in my research re sending funds across the border PayPal is about the only way. I've used it before and the system itself isn't difficult beyond having to deal with them being unwilling to give up the money. I've tried to use them to pay for things on my end and they pretty much always balk at it. Hah - maybe it's just me they don't like!!
DeleteThose pieced and stitched fabric pots in the second link are intriguing. Somehow I think I'd dislike one if I made it, but seeing these as collections, I am fascinated by them.
