This box of yarn-y goodness appeared in the mail and will evolve into two more mile-a-minute afghans at some point between now and Christmas.....
And, there's been a little more progress on the Christmas stitcheries too....
You will note that I'm doing two of each 'theme', but each of them is different from the other.
Today's quote from C. Beaudin Hamada: "The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything. Live simply, care deeply, speak kindly, love generously and leave the rest to God"
When I was very young my cousin's grandmother (who I thought was my third grandmother) made afghans for all the kids in my other grandmother's family. Grandma Young has one son, married to my Aunt, so she spent holidays with us. You can understand the confusion of a child who thought she had 3 Grandmas. Anyway Grandma Young made afghans for all of Grandma Dove's grandchildren. We got to pick our colors. I picked white, gray and black and got a lot of flack for picking something so "ugly". I can assure you that mine is the only surviving blanket because it's ALWAYS worked with the decor for almost 50 years.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with having three grandma's - honorary or not! Amazing that you still have your afghan after all that time - and you're so right that those colours are always in style. One of these afghans will have ivory centres with black 'trim' and the other will be black in the centre with grey. The other two featured multi-colours in the centre and ivory trim for one and black for the other. All should stand the test of time I think.
DeleteIt's nice that you're switching those stitcheries up a bit. I've bookmarked some of those links today. Definitely have to find a source for that neoprene. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThese advent calendars are for two brothers so I'm trying to make them the same but also different too. Re the neoprene - wonder if a dollar store would have it in the craft section?
DeleteLove your hollies and the links. I've passed on the butterfly one. A great quote also.
ReplyDeleteI've looked for ages for the how to on those butterflies because I really want to make them for the grandkids. They really love getting letters from their 'grands' so I thought putting a flutterby inside might be fun. 'Course it could very well scare them to death!
DeleteAww for sure, those birds are adorable.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed seeing them - I think they're adorable too.
DeleteYou are a grandmother on a mission. Sweet cross stitches. You will have fun with all that woolly goodness.
ReplyDeleteI do take my role as grandma quite seriously you know! This particular project will, I hope, be handed down to our 'great-grands' if there are any.
DeleteAlways fun to see new yarny acquisitions, and your latest advent stitches. ☺ Love the quote. It's true when I live like I believe all of that. I should print it out for the moments I forget.
ReplyDeleteYes, I might print this quote too - would be good mounted on my sewing room wall to remind myself about what's really important.
DeleteThat quotation is so good. It's similar to loving what you already have, rather than wishing for more.
ReplyDeleteExactly - it seems to be human nature to wish for more and that's not such a good thing.
DeleteMore lovely ornaments for the calendar and I know you will put the yarn to good use! Loved the link to the little crocheted birds.... so realistic! Hope your day is a good one! Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteThose little birds were certainly eye-catching so I couldn't resist sharing that particular link. I'm looking forward to making the little stitcheries into mini-ornaments but am resisting the urge until I have them all stitched.
