A change of pace!

And now, for something different.....

How about a peanut butter & jelly sandwich?
Or maybe a burger?.....

I'm a grandma, what can I say?

If you are of the mind, please send some positive thoughts my way for tomorrow.  I'm destined to do a trunk show for a small quilt guild in the area and I am SO not a public speaker!!!  I know it's difficult for smaller guilds to get speakers and it's also a way to promote the fact that I hope to get commissions and sales for my landscapes.  That's not, however, making me feel the least bit braver!

Today's quote is from Dale Carnegie...."There are always three speeches for every one you actually gave.  The one you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave"

  1. Your play food looks perfect for little ones to play with, good idea.
And crochet makes up a beautiful flower doesn't it? Thanks for the link.
Have fun helping quilters learn something new!

    1. I think every little one loves to pretend so hopefully the 'food' will give him a few hours of fun. As for fun helping quilters learn - hmmmm - jury's out on that one!

  2. Hello Mary Anne,
    Your link for :
    - "THIS is one of those tips that can make your sewing life SEW much simpler!!"
doesn't seem to work for me - it comes up with error 404 not found.
The artist Amy - how on earth does she make the artefacts? I'm well impressed. :-)

  3. Hi Val - Odd, because I just checked the link and it's working on this end. Did you click on 'THIS' or 'SEW' I wonder....'THIS' is the right one. If you get a chance, let me know?

    1. Thank you, Mary Anne, yes I did click on 'THIS', but unfortunately today it still gives me an error '404 Not Found'. though not to worry, it may be that it is not available in the UK. Who knows? :-) Like you, I'm a bit of a technophobe, so haven't a clue with this. :-) I'll stick to craft...

    2. Hmmmm - I don't know Val. It's still working on my end and no one else has said anything, so perhaps you're right in that it's not available in the UK - seems odd though! Sticking to craft - sounds like a plan (for both of us!). Perhaps, if you're REALLY curious about the link you could try putting http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/tips/end-to-loose-ends in yourself and see what happens? If it does work, I suspect you're going to be disappointed when you see what it actually is!!

    3. Ha ha, Mary Anne, I am given the same response - Error 404 - not found. How strange is this!!
Never mind, Please do not worry about it any more, it's no big deal. But I can't help but be curious as to why!
Thank you for trying though, Val (UK)

    4. Very very odd!! Maybe you were right to think that it's something you simply aren't able to see in the UK. (And all it was....a pony tail holder wrapped around a sewing machine bobbin to keep the thread from unraveling....not worth the angst!!).

  4. Your 'foodstuffs' look fun, Mary Anne. Love these links, especially the foolproof french knots....I have certainly been down this road many times. Love the quote.

    1. Certainly fun to make play food - but a tad tedious. As for foolproof french knots - just remember to keep the thread fairly taut when you're pulling it through...makes a huge difference.

  5. I'll do anything except get up and speak to a group of people. My boss even sent me to a very expensive public speaking coach. Didn't help much. Sending huge positive vibes to you. You'll be great:)

    1. Thanks Mary Ann. I really dread public speaking but once I get going it's not so terrible. It's just the getting to the getting going part that's hard!!

  6. I am not a public speaker either, that being said I seem to do a lot of it as a teacher. it's better when you know what you are talking about. if the colliwobbles don't seem to go away you just have to push through them. jellied knees can be mitigated by either pacing or sitting. standing off to the side and making everything you are talking about center stage helps too. if they are looking at your beautiful things, they aren't looking at you! and keep reminding yourself they ren't looking at you. it helps a little too.
    Good luck!

    1. Thank you for the great tips! I've heard that imagining your audience naked helps too, but haven't gone that far...

  7. Hi Mary Anne ... cute play food ... now if only I had some little ones to make it for. I promised my daughter if and when she has some little grand kiddies for me they won't get anything plastic from me.
I am sure your talent will shine through as you present to your guild all the wonderful goodies you've created...(this coming from the one who couldn't do a show and tell without a weeks worth of prep before hand...lol) but, I'll be ready for that bridge next retreat!!! Have a great time, Helen

    1. Thanks Helen - having grandkids is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself making all sorts of things. Better to inundate them when they're small because it won't be long before they don't want handmade things. I know exactly how you feel about doing show and tells - my 'home' guild is large and they insist you have to use a microphone, which just adds a whole 'nother level of angst to the entire process!

    1. It was a small group so that made it easier - and they were very complementary and appreciative, so that helped too. Still don't want to make a career out of public speaking though!

  12. Your slowly made fast food looks great! The grands will love it. I hope your speaking engagement went well yesterday. Reading one of your comments above, I wonder if you're at all like me... an introvert who actually can find public speaking fun and invigorating (when the topic is one I can talk intelligently on ;>) I imagine your audience was excited to hear whatever you shared with them. I hope we hear more about it - how it went, what you shared, anything you can tell us. ☺

    1. Fun and invigorating? No, public speaking is not my 'thing' - never has been. I guess I don't do it enough to build up any sort of confidence...and hearken it back to public school days when we had to all do the 'dreaded speech'. Sheer torture!

    2. Ha ha. I thought you might respond like that. Thinking back to school book reports and speeches makes me shudder. I learned nothing from those experiences, except that I could survive it. So thankful for speaking experiences as an adult that I enjoyed. Totally changed my perspective on the thing that some people fear more than death. lol

    3. In school we had to deliver a 3 minute speech and I always wrote (and memorized!) at least ten minutes and then was astounded when I managed to blather my way through it in 2 1/2 minutes flat and got docked marks. Yeah, not a good experience. One of the traumas of youth.
