Progress and a rant

There has been a start on the embroidery on the landscape as you can see from this...

Now for the rant (feel free to scroll down to avoid the entire thing).  Apartment life sometimes is a complete and total pain in the derrierre.  Monday we received notice that the powers-that-be have decided that the entire building has to be fumigated for cockroaches.  I know...yeww...but we haven't seen any in our unit.  We have traps in several places so we'd know if there were.  We won't mention the area in the building where all such things seem to originate!  So.....we have to pull EVERY.SINGLE.PIECE.OF.FURNITURE out from the walls two feet so they can spray behind.  We have to remove EVERY.SINGLE.THING out of EVERY.SINGLE.CUPBOARD.  We have to vacate the premises for a minimum of six hours during/after the spraying.  Oh, did I mention that both RC and I are dealing with sore backs (him from sciatica and compounded by his fall a couple weeks ago).  Needless to say we will NOT be moving furniture and have had to throw ourselves at the mercy of the management who have arranged for people to come and move things for us.  That will happen Friday...and then we have the weekend to try to get between everything to get to anything.  Monday they spray...and then they're supposed to come back to put the furniture back, but no word on when that might happen.  Then - there's a good possibility (if they find roaches on our floor/wing) that the entire thing will be repeated in 14 days.  Oh, and did I mention we'll be trying to pack to get ready to leave on our trip on Thursday?  Ain't no stress in MY life!!!!!

Because of having to spend the entire day yesterday packing everything up and trying to put it somewhere (anywhere!), I'm sorry to say there's only a couple links for you this time.  However the first one should keep you amused for quite awhile.

- If you want to see eye candy galore, have a look at the AQS Worldwide Quilt Parade HERE.  There just might be two or three of my pieces there!  You can also vote for your favourites.

- HERE is an 'awwww' thing and THIS is another one.

Today's quote is from Dede Hawkins..."Never let your heart be so forgiving that it gets comfortable with disrespect"

    1. I can't imagine what would have happened had they wanted to do this when we were actually away...who would move all our stuff then? As it is nothing is getting moved back until we return...we won't be here so who cares if there's boxes piled in the middle of the living room floor. One thing this has done is made us realize we need to downsize a lot more!

moving about!! I feel bad for your DH--sciatica is no fun (I had a bout and talk about painful!!) , Sending good thoughts your way for things to get back to normal sooner rather than later!!
I love the grasses growing about the tractor you've added--so perfect!! ;))))

    1. Waiting for the knock at the door to yield the furniture 'movers'. And yes, DH has had ongoing issues with sciatica and has compounded the pain level with bruising after his fall.

  3. Our youngest son lived in an apartment that always seemed to need fumigating. I was so happy when he moved into his house, at least if he gets cockroaches he can handle them himself and keep things under control. He actually knows what to go and even though he hasn't seen any still does his thing to make sure he doesn't get them. I can only imagine the stress you are under.

    God bless.

    1. Yes, it's hugely stressful, for sure. We always have traps anywhere we think they might come in and have never seen any in our unit. We know they are in the building though and it's good that they are dealing with them. Sadly there are a number of people refusing to abide and they will only cause the rest of us grief later on because we all know the bugs will simply take up residence in their units and multiply from there. Can't fix stupid!

  5. What a nightmare! At my Mom's apartment we have do do any bug spraying. I don't mind because I can do it on the same day I do my own and at my own convenience.

    1. They're doing the entire building this time instead of giving it a patch job like they've done previously. We hope we can avoid the second go-round after 14 days and I think we will because there's been no evidence of the critters in our unit. Either way, we'll be leaving everything out of the cupboards while we're away and we'll deal with it when we come back. Not a nice homecoming to look forward to though.

Sherry of createology: Oh Sweet Mary Anne…what a stressful inconvenience for you and RC. And just when you re to pack and leave on your visit to family. I wish I could be there to help you. May this all go smoothly. My favorite mantra, “This too shal pass!”

    1. Yes, the timing could certainly have been a lot better. We've made up our minds that we aren't going to bother returning anything to the shelves or moving anything until after we return from our trip....just too much stress to consider doing otherwise. Of course we'll come home to a huge mess but we'll deal with that when the time comes. And yes, this too shall pass.

  7. Stress you don't need. OTOH you don't need cockroaches, either -- and even if they aren't in your unit, if they're down the hall or next door they could decide to come to visit. Look for my entries in the Quilt Parade under Illinois!

    1. Yes, they're in the building because we've seen them so it's probably only a matter of time before they make their way into our unit. So far we haven't seen any in our place. All this enforced moving of things has given us added incentive to get rid of a lot of stuff we really don't need as much as we think we do.

I remember when I left home at 18 and lived in downtown Minneapolis, we had to be sprayed for roaches and bedbugs, lucky for me there were no bedbugs but roaches, they sprayed every two months. I hope all goes well before you leave for vacation and all is well when you get back home.
    Love the links, thank-you.

  9. My Dad had a tractor like that when I was a kid.
So sorry you are having to go through the spray event.

    1. I grew up on a farm too so we had a tractor - it was what I learned to drive on.
Yes, the spray thing has been traumatic for sure, but it's certainly given us incentive to downsize!
