I need a whole lotta what this guy's got!

The Resident Chef and I are likening ourselves to monkeys as we navigate our way around our apartment.  Not a wise thing to think we can walk anywhere at night!  One thing all this enforced moving of 'stuff' has done is reinforced in our minds that we really need to downsize dramatically.  My sewing room is certainly going to have a huge day of reckoning and RC's kitchen will be the same.  Weighing the mental cost of holding on to things against the price to replace them should we really need them down the road is going to be a huge factor.  The thought of having to go through all this if they have to fumigate again is definitely an even bigger factor and odds are, in a building of this size, it will happen again at some point.  I'm certainly looking a lot towards a minimalist lifestyle.  I know we'll never get to that point, but it's something to aspire to.

- If you travel with your iron, perhaps making one of THESE would be beneficial.

- THIS is a cute project for this time of year (and there's links there to more as well).

- THIS is cute as well.

- You might have the raw materials on hand to make THIS.

Today's quote:  Two things define you - your patience when you have nothing, your attitude when you have everything"

  1. Ohmygosh--what a conundrum you are facing there!! I might be tempted to just leave all the stuff out; but at any rate--this is not a fun way to spend your days in retirement!! I feel bad for you two...hope you can get through this relatively unscathed...
We who craft have to have "stuff"--just a given!! I am sending you my best wishes during this upsetting time... hugs, Julierose

    1. Oh yes, we certainly are leaving everything out for the next couple of weeks. We'll worry about it when we come home from our trip. We don't know whether they will have to come in and spray again while we're gone so there's no point in moving everything twice. Supposedly they won't have to spray again if they see no evidence of 'critters' in our unit and we've never seen any so I don't think the second 'go' will be necessary. I hope.

  2. As you know, I heartily encourage winnowing! It makes your home life easier. And the first step is to keep an eye on what you bring in, aside from consumables. Anyway, when you get back from your trip, I imagine you'll downsize things so as not to put them away again!

    1. Yes, winnowing is a good thing. For the most part we try to not bring anything in without getting rid of something so we keep the status quo. Unfortunately said quo needs to be taken down several notches. The car currently has a pile of donations and there's been several trips downstairs with recylables. Most things will have to be washed/wiped down before they get put back into place so we'll do a serious soul search then.

Sherry of createology: I am such a klutz that I would definitely hurt myself getting around in the dark. Please stay safe and have a most wonderful time with your family my dear friend. Whe you return home is when you can deal with this imposition.

    1. Yes, navigation in the dark isn't too safe at the moment...we walk very gingerly! And yes, we don't plan on attempting to put things like the cupboards to rights until we get back. Won't be a fun homecoming, but it is what it is.

  4. I've decided my personality of becoming attached to things make it impossible for me to become a minimalist.

    1. I have a hard time with it too Joy. I hate getting rid of family 'heirlooms' but then I have to stop and realize that our kids do NOT want any of it and they will be left to deal with it. Neither of them lives close to us so it will be a huge chore for them. That certainly helps with the decision making process.

  5. I've caught up on all your posts since the beginning of September and am now both celebrating your latest project (huzzah!) and sympathizing with your fumigating woes (ugh!). Thank you so much for your comment on my blog...as losses go, this is a hard one.

    1. Yes life has been a lesson in highs and lows and I suspect that's the same for you as well after all you've gone through the past while. Putting it into perspective, you've had it a whole lot worse than we have...and the people affected by Helene and now the next storm have it a great deal worse than either of us.

    1. In the grand scheme of things what we're going through is a mere pittance compared with what's happening in the southern US.
