Maybe too close for comfort

There's not much point in showing you the entire landscape because it really doesn't look all that much different despite the fact that I've spent two days embroidering the flowers.  They're fussy cut and then ironed on but they need an uplift after that so hence the embroidery.

And, because that was pretty boring, I thought I'd share a picture of the progress on my hexxie quilt.  I'm working on the purples right now and once they're all done I will be adding a row of greens around the outsides of these...

    1. Hmmm - just realized there are two forms of flowers this time! Didn't think of that until just now.

  2. Ooooh! I love close-ups. The flowers look beautiful. And I'm curious about all the stitching on the "grass". Is that quilted fabric you used, or is that quilting that you've done? Great detail!

    1. The grass is stitched with the machine - I have several different decorative stitches on the machine that translate somewhat into 'grass'. I like the texture it gives.

  3. That wasn't boring, it was a beautiful view. It would be great to see your work in rl. The textures don't come across so well in pictures. I like the pix though.

    1. Yes, it's hard to see the real texture that I try to put into my work - hard to get a picture that shows it overly well.

    1. Yay - can't wait to see what sort of hexie project you do!! Glad you could see that adding the embroidery enhances the flowers. That's what I was hoping for!

    2. Hexies are so much fun! Your flowers are lovely. I think when we work on a project we look at it so much that we begin to miss how beautiful it really looks. Thanks for the links. I think I might make some ruler boxes!

    3. I am bemoaning the fact that we got rid of a number of wooden yard sticks when we moved here. Would love to have them to make some of those boxes!

  5. The flower detail is lovely as is your stitching. I really like the fabrics you are using for your hexies.

Found this but resisted despite the enthusiastic response by various family members.....https://needlework.craftgossip.com/16-star-wars-cross-stitch-patterns/2020/06/25/

    1. I saw that Star Wars link too and eyed it with grandsons in mind and then thought better of it. If I did one I could create a monster!

  6. Thank you. The use up scraps link is a really good project I can get behind. There's less fuss in directions to follow, and a neat excercise mat in the making.

    YOur embroidered flowers are gorgeous.

    1. I'm always hunting for ideas for using up scraps because I know they have a habit of accumulating at an alarming rate. Glad you like the mat idea!

    1. I'm a glutton for punishment because I've added more flowers to the landscape piece so that will likely end up meaning three entire afternoons just spent working on those alone.

    1. Indeed it does take a long time but the effect is so worth it in the end (at least I think so!).

  10. Wow, Mary Anne! I’ve been missing your blog for a while! Love your pretty hexies! (I’ve got so addicted to Instagram, it’s worse than looking at Pinterest! And I don’t think it’s really inspired me to any wonderful new project unfortunately!)
All your textured stitching on the grass looks amazing. I forgot about clicking on the photos, but did, accidentally, as it were, and can see the detail so much better! Fabulous work!
I was just going off hexies a little but now I might start again, having seen yours!
Your header quilt is just amazing, well done my friend!

    1. I haven't even looked at Instagram because I know what will happen. I have enough trouble with Pinterest! This is my first hexie project in a long time so I'm having fun. Not sure the fun will last overly long and wonder if it will become a slog to get it finished.
