A discussion of holes

Yet one more instance of one never knows just what will be the topic of mumbling here at Chez Magpie!  Today I will be telling you about holes.  Of the sort that appear in one's fingers, as they are wont to do.  You see, your writer doesn't like thimbles.  Well, that's not quite true - I like them.  I just don't USE them.

So....there are two ongoing evening projects happening at the moment (the landscape is for the daytime hours).  I knit on the latest pair of socks - which involve the use of four (sometimes five) pointy objects which, for reasons known only to them, like to find a certain spot in my left pointer finger and look for an unguarded moment to poke a hole.  Which then keeps getting poked in the the same place just as a reminder that the hole is there.  To avoid the over-use of bad words I put those in a time out and let them contemplate their misdeeds.

Not one to be without anything to occupy herself, your writer then turned her attention to the making of hexies.  Which involves an entirely different sort of sharp pointy object.  Which involves the puncturing of yet another hole in the opposite hand.  So....time out for that needle too.

And so it continues.....

(see?  I told you you never know what you're going to
find when you come here!)

Okay - now how about a picture of the progress on the landscape?...

I've worked on the outside walls and the grass area, as well as on the bell tower.

Today the quote is from Rachel Marie Martin..."Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like and learn to find joy in the story you are actually living"

  1. What a difference. Really like how you did the wooden walls.

    That quote is very apropos:)

  2. Look up, rubber fingers, and consider trying them. Thimbles I have, but rarely use.
I used a rubber finger when I worked in an office. At home, I order them. The one left, I can see hanging on a pen in the pen holder. Yet, I didn't think to use it while sewing until reading your post.
    Thank you!

    1. You're welcome - I think? I've never tried a rubber finger for stitching although my favourite thimble (IF and when I remember to actually use it) is a rubber one. Worked great until I managed to poke the needle through it more than once and gave up on that plan. I'm one of those strange people who can put a thimble on and then end up simply using another finger that's unprotected. Marry that with a false sense of security thinking I have a thimble, therefore I'm protected and the needle gets buried to the bone in the other digit. Ouch!

  3. I have some nice thimbles which I never use. My fingers don't like being enclosed. But I generally manage not to stab myself. Except I've managed it with epp. I get engrossed and forget to watch out for sharp objects, closer than they appear.

    1. I'm usually pretty good about not stabbing myself too - it's way more apt to happen when I'm wearing a thimble. The hole I get in my finger is usually because of repetition and not because I've stabbed myself.

  5. I'm not a thimble user. If it is on one finger, I use another to poke the needle through!! Such is life.I have used the stick on finger tips. They work. I don't remember their exact name, sorry.

    1. That's exactly what I do too Judy - get lulled into a false sense of security. I've tried stick on 'thimbles' too and they work just the same - I'd need to cover my entire hand!

  6. I've lots of thimbles but seldom use them. I also ignore one if worn in favour of the unprotected fingers
The church is looking usable already. I like it!

    1. Yep, thimbles are more of a menace than they're worth! The only time I'll use one is if I've really done a number on my finger.

  8. As soon as I started reading, I started wincing. I feel your pain. Your latest landscape is fantastic! I love the roof. I've been away and occupied for a while and I need to catch up here and see the transformations this landscape has come trhough. :)
