I'm quite happy to report that the adult-sized sock knitting is done!!! Must say I was getting rather tired of socks after having made at least nine pairs (lost count and too lazy to go and check). Now I'm working on a 5-year old size which seem REALLY small in comparison!
These were made using Paton's Kroy sock yarn that I had in my stash. I used the same pattern but made some modifications by adding a few stitches and rounding the toe. Pattern is 'Wise Hilda's Basic Ribbed Sock' by Kate Atherley and can be found HERE on Ravelry.
Today's quote is from Eleanor Roosevelt..."Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people"
Interesting, that quotation from Eleanor. She dismisses the whole of biography, social history, psychology, sociology and anthropology in one swipe! I wonder if she said it in an moment of irritation with her press coverage. She was a great knitter. Maybe someone interrupted as she was counting stitches.
ReplyDeletePeople take their lives in their hands when they interrupt a knitter! And there certainly seems to be a lot of small-minded people in the world these days.
DeleteHi Maryanne love the socks ,oh you are such a clever chicky turning your hand at so many different crafts, well done my friend xx
ReplyDeleteHmmm - not really so clever, just easily bored!
DeleteMA Dear you have sock knitting down to perfection! They will be such wonderful gifts for your family. Another excellent quote today.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm not sure about sock knitting perfection, but at least they'll cover their feet! IF they fit, that is!!
DeleteHello Mary Anne! Such beautiful socks.... you are very clever.... I have never been able to turn my hand to socks! Those miniature mice you linked to are incredible..... my eyesight wouldn't let me make anything like that!! Christine xx
ReplyDeleteI've never been able to make socks either, until I stumbled across this pattern. It's one that makes sense and the heel-turning part of it isn't too difficult. It's now my go-to pattern and I doubt I will try making any others. And yes, my eyes hurt just at the thought of making those itty bitty things!!

ReplyDeleteYet another wonderful pair of socks and ready for the coming winter. I can imagine lots of happy feet.
Only one more pair to go and the entire family will be 'socked' for Christmas. Can't have any cold toesies on my watch!!!
DeleteThat quote is spot on - totally agree. Congrats on the socks achievement!
ReplyDeleteWren x
Only one more pair of socks to go and the whole family will have a pair. I just hope I haven't created a monster and they're all going to want replacements at the same time!
DeleteThose are lovely socks, Mary Anne. Somehow I think I've missed most of the 9 pairs you've knit. That first link. Wow. I'm pretty astounded too. I don't even comprehend how those tiny things were crocheted. I imagine the crocheter was wearing surgery magnifiers (whatever they're called) (googling...) A search found me a pair on Amazon (Surgical Binocular Loupes) for under $50.00. Huh. You, too can micro crochet!
ReplyDeleteNope - no micro crocheting in my future - my fingers would most definitely revolt. Hard enough to crochet with regular cotton these days. Only one more sock to knit and I'll have them done!
DeleteThese look SO comfortable! I love seeing all of the projects you share. You do such amazing work.
ReplyDeleteThese are for the Resident Chef - he's so fussy about his socks so I'm hopeful he'll like them.
DeleteThanks for sharing your work and all those nifty links.
ReplyDeleteGreat socks, Mary Anne!
ReplyDeleteI’ve knitted socks many years ago ..... don’t think I will again, but you never know!
I’ve really gotten into crochet again this year and I didn’t think that would happen, tee hee!
Must finish my crochet needle holder soon, I’ve just bought another two crochet hooks!!
Thank you for all your inspirational ideas!
Hugs,
Barbara xx
Thanks Barbara. I tried knitting socks many years ago and got entirely frustrated with the whole thing. I didn't knit fast enough and the socks I made took me months. Now I've knit enough that I'm faster and I can usually knit a sock a week....at least with this pattern anyway.
