Tangents

Some of you may know of my interest in genealogy and won't be surprised that, despite my being anxious to attempt working on the church I showed you last time, I have gone off in a whole 'nother direction and I've been playing about with my Vessey/Vesey line of the family (my maternal grandmother side of the family).  I had one of 'those' moments in family tree research where something totally unexpected fell into my lap and now I'm a bit obsessed.  A very distant cousin who lives in the area where that particular branch of the family originated is an avid researcher (made much easier because he actually lives where most of it happened) and has so kindly shared all his information with me.  Would you believe I now have a 2 1/2" stack of paper, printed double side, that's waiting for me to input into my family tree?  Like I said - a moment - one that doesn't happen often!  I have hours (& hours!!) of happy inputting into Ancestry ahead of me.  So....as I said.....a tangent.

Hard to show pictures of inputting though!

So....in the spirit of having some pictures to show you, I thought I'd share what's appearing to be becoming a collection (albeit not through any fault of my own!).  Altho' magpies don't look quite like ravens or crows, it seems that some people think they do!

This one is a wonderful piece of fabric
art measuring about 9 x 11"

This guy is quite large - wrought iron -
measuring about 20 x 10"

And this one is about 9" tall
and is made from resin

This anonymous quote made me laugh..."Of course I talk to myself when crafting...I need expert advice"

  4. I have the same issue with flying pigs. I've had to put some away should anyone think I'm a fanatic. Another great quote! Good luck with the genealogy project.

    1. Flying pigs - fun! At one point I bought myself a little teddy bear that I fell in love with and once my friends saw it, they decided I loved bears and therefore I should be inundated with them for every possible gift-giving occasion they could think of. I ended up with dozens and didn't have the heart not to display them because they were gifts. When we moved here I finally got rid of all but three. Now I'm afraid crows are setting them off again!!

  6. I love Lynda Noe's fabulous crow. The Polymer clay button stamps are great. What a fabulous windfall with the ancestry papers. Have a load of fun sorting and adding to what you already have.

    1. It seems every Christmas I'm getting a crow to add to my 'collection' - I like them, but I hope the word doesn't get out to everybody so I end up with a huge flock (which, by the way, for crows is called a 'murder').

  8. A (far) distant cousin got seriously into genealogy years ago and produced a book that spanned the family tree. I think in our immediate family only one of us decided to buy the book before no more were published. I'm not sure how regretful I feel over not buying one at the time, but it was certainly a labor of love for him and I admired his passion this work.

I had to click on the shoelace video just because you were so funny. That was terrific! Who knew there are so many ways to tie shoes!?!

    1. I've done three books - all were transcripts of old family diaries dating back as far as the mid 1800's. Fun to do altho' it took me seven years to get them all done! Shoelaces - who knew!!

  9. Thankfully, a cousin has done the ancestry thing for my mother's side of the family. I watched the shoelace tying - interesting. Thanks for all the links.

    1. Ancestry is definitely a rabbit hole - I can spend altogether too many hours poking about discovering all sorts of things. Doesn't help that I'm working on Jack's family too.

  10. I talk to myself too, and the dog. He can be quite chatty about some quilts! What fun getting all that information. You will be a very happy magpie inputting all that and seeing how the family tree takes shape. Great stuff!

  11. I've heard the ancestry sights are like a black hole lol! I've never done anything but I have a cousin who has researched our family tree and it's quite interesting. She says we descended from Hungarian royalty lol. We use that a lot in our family when we're feeling all 'high and mighty' hahahaha! Have a great weekend!

  12. I spend quite a bit of my time on Ancestry. I have 3 partners in crime and together we research our various families. Our families all come from the same part of Donegal. We have all done our DNA as have various other members of our families. That keeps us very very busy :)

    1. I haven't done the DNA thing (yet) but certainly spend far too many hours on Ancestry. It's too easy to get sucked in and lose several hours before you know it.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
