Over the weekend I finished making my Quilted Hug and I'm happy with it (although haven't had a chance to really test it out to see if it helps keep my shoulders warm when we have a nasty east wind). Here it is...
This shows it closed as it would be for wearing and below shows it flat...
Modifications I did: I used three of the crazy quilt blocks I had languishing in my stash and worked around them. The rest was made using 2 1/2" strips of various fabrics. I backed it with some leftover flannelette (had to use two colours to get the amount I needed) and I didn't add batting because I felt it would be too warm. For quilting, I simply did a stitch in the ditch application. If you're interested in making your own, I used the directions found HERE but there are numerous versions 'round and about the internet, along with many ideas for pattern modifications. - I absolutely love listening to THIS! Hope you enjoy it too. And I love THESE guys too! And THIS pretty much says it all.
- If you happen to have leftover sock yarn and don't know what you could make with it, how about THIS
- THIS is a cute wee ornament that wouldn't take long to make.
- There are lots of great gifting ideas HERE.
- AND, just for fun, perhaps a gift for yourself might be THIS?
Lovely warming shawl you've finished:))) So pretty with those orphan blocks in it...I hope it will keep your shoulders and upper arms warm--we are staying in today as the wind chill is down to 4 degrees and with the snow cover that is pretty cold for us...
ReplyDeleteA bit of Christmas prep going on here; this is the week I make my fudge yum!! Hugs, Julierose
I thought it was a good way to use up some stash and hopefully it will keep my shoulders warm. Wish I could check your fudge for quality control!
DeleteBeautiful work 👏
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda.
DeleteSuch a fabulous rendition of The Little Drummer Boy! Just wow! And, as for your quilted hug, it's lovely and such a stylish way to keep your shoulders warm.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that version of Little Drummer Boy amazing!! Looking forward to trying my 'hug', but not wishing for weather that's cold enough to warrant it.
DeleteYour quilted hug looks awesome. I agree batting might have made it a bit too warm. Hope it works out for you and keeps your shoulders warm.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I hope it works too, although I'm not rushing cold enough weather so I can try it.
DeleteI have never heard of a quilted hug, but it looks good. Great links as always. I think I have some sock yarn, might make a hat in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of them either but thought it would be a fun thing to make and might serve a good purpose too.
DeleteClever idea and it looks terrific. I've no doubt it will help keep you a bit warmer!
ReplyDeleteTested it tonight and yes, it does keep my shoulders warmer in front of our drafty balcony door.
DeleteKing and Country is , for me, the very best version of The Little Drummer Boy ever - i could listen to it every day, all year ... your hug is bright and cheery!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree - that group is amazing.
Deletelove the idea of your cape, LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is cozy when it's cold!
DeleteYou're far ahead of my woven square shoulder shawl. It's still in a confused state. Yours looks very cosy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I didn't add batting to it because I think it would have made it too warm. I've used it once already and it was a welcome block of the chill.
DeleteWow. That version of The Little Drummer Boy is amazing! So glad I checked it out. Your neck and shoulder hug looks so cozy. Glad to read it does a good job keeping you warm.
ReplyDeleteThose guys are so full of energy and a pleasure to watch. I'm glad the hug keeps my shoulders warm too - I think it's going to get a lot of use.
