Progress on a couple of fronts

Not a great picture (very dull outside) but you can see the progress I think...

And....some more results of the decluttering efforts here at Chez Magpie....

A ruching marker thingie, a flower yo yo maker, sequins, a needlecase, sheet holders, and a head

old calendars and CQ magazines that are very outdated

old pictures and picture frames

cotton yarn (I hate the stuff); a sleeve of recordable CD's, some white cloth 'bits' too
small for what I need, and a couple of storage  containers

two dog brushes (no, I don't have a dog!). a knife sharpener that didn't have directions so I have no clue how to use it, a couple of rulers, two lethal cutters that have led to a lot of blood shed, and a bobbin case for a sewing machine I got rid of years ago

Today's quote..."The beauty of handmade lies in the imperfections.  Anything perfect is machine made"

    1. hmmm - the border isn't supposed to be curvy. It's just a trick of the camera (or photographer error!!!!)

  2. As you throw away, I keep running around shops buying things like this. Red yarn, string would become part of Christmas wrapping for me. Enjoying.

    1. I agree about the red yarn/Christmas wrapping idea but I already have a full ball of sparkly red and another of green that will be more than adequate for that. This particular stuff is 100% cotton which my friend will knit (and sell for charity) dishcloths with. Figured it would do more good in her hands than in mine.

  3. Ooh....loving the progress, Mary Anne! Love the border, too. It is a sunshiny kinda day here today. =)

    1. Thanks Kim. So far so good - the hard part is starting now as I start putting in the details.

  4. Today's quote - having just finished making a quilt, and knowing the faults(!), I said as much to a friend, and her response was "Only God makes perfect!". I try so hard to make my hand-made projects faultless, but never achieve it. :-)
The tractor picture is looking better each day, Mary Anne - well done so far.

    1. Your friend is absolutely right - heaven knows what I make is never perfect and I finally came to the realization that it doesn't have to be. Close is good enough.

    1. I could get rid of a lot more I know, but at least I've taken off the top layer.

  6. You have done so much with the decluttering - very impressive! I'm still focusing on looking at everything and cleaning and reorganizing, but I've got one overflowing paper grocery bag to drop at the salvation army on my way to a doctor's appointment next Wednesday, and I've managed to discard a few things entirely in the past week, so there is some decluttering "on the side" so to speak.

    1. I celebrate every step forward in this process because I know I'm going in the right direction. I'm sure I could go through everything again and get rid of even more but for now I'm satisfied. My kids I know will thank me eventually.

    1. I liked that crochet pattern too, but I don't suppose I'll ever get around to making it. Too many other projects on the list to do first!

  8. Your tractor-scape is looking good. Wow to the wire sculptures...my hands would be shredded from the sharp wire. My Grandma also had dog grooming brushes even though she never had a dog...they were for combing out yarn on dolls and stuffed animals she sewed. OOh the good ol’ days. Excellent quote dear.

    1. That's the use I had for the dog brushes too - but it didn't work very well for what I wanted and they just got stuffed in a drawer. I had a grandiose idea that I could comb yarn and make it into something I could use on my landscapes. I can't imagine doing those wire sculptures either - I can do enough damage with a needle and thread much less wire!

  9. I'm just amazed at how quickly you make these quilted pictures, Mary Anne - and how quickly the details take on real meaning. The snowy ground and the cloudy sky are terrific in this picture. That head in the first picture piques my curiosity. :)

    1. I spend altogether too many hours each day in my sewing space and that explains why I guess I get things done quickly. Having a husband that cooks and brings me coffee helps! As for that head - at one time I used to make dolls and that one was something I got in a swap and never used.
