A project and continuation

I think I should show you something I worked on recently (just so I don't run the risk of boring you TOO much with the downsizing efforts!).  These beaded buttons were done for the 'CQ Quarterly' magazine that will be available soon....

And here's the results of my downsizing challenge for Jan. 2 and Jan. 3....

Above is some yardage - most of which will be donated to our local quilt guild for use in making wheelchair bags.
Below is a binder filled with rubber stamps which I have rarely used (if ever for a lot of them).  I have booked a sale table at the quilt guild for February and will see if I can sell any (or all) of them.  What I don't sell will be thrifted.

And, as a little aside - we took 6 of these to our #1 son at Christmas time and left them there.  I know it's not a downsize for January per se, but I'm counting it anyway!!

  1. Why did you have to post those buttons? They're beautiful and now I want to stop everything and bead buttons. They're artworks. Lovely.

I'm only going to mention downsizing here and there on my blog, so as to avoid showing what look like the same three bags o' stuff every time, but I will mention as I go, and encourage anyone who flags or gets a bit down. It's not easy work.

    1. Oh oh - so sorry I've enabled you!! The buttons are fun to make, there's no doubt.
I'm afraid I'm going to bore everyone with my downsizing posts this month, but I'm just about to start a new landscape so there will be that to show as I go along.

  2. Great post!
    Declutter link is nice.
Reading you post, I searched for a quilt guild in my area. There is one that's been around for 20 years!

    1. Nice that you found a quilt guild - is it close enough for you to get to?

  3. I had forgotten those lovely buttons. I made some years ago in our Au. group. Yours are lovely.
    Good going with the de-stashing.

    1. I had made them a long time ago too and thought it might be time to re-visit the process. I'm actually having fun with the downsizing - who knew!!

  4. Your buttons are amazing, Mary Ann.
And I think down sizing is a great thing. In the house cleaning world it's known as 'clean as you go.' Picking up or tidying up as you go about your schedule. Then when you do the deep cleaning it goes faster.
So 'clear as you create' is maybe a way to say it in the crafting world. Good concept no matter how it's explained.

    1. Thank you Janie - they're fun to make (and even better - use up a few beads!). I agree that 'clean as you go' is a good thing, but first I have to get the stuff weeded out so that cleaning is easier. We haven't downsized since we moved here over ten years ago so it's high time.

  5. You're doing great with your de-cluttering. I checked out the site and I'm playing the "moving game"...who knew...LOL I did pack a lot of sewing and craft stuff in banker boxes. Then I went through them again with a different rationale and was really picky about what I kept.

    1. Funny how going through things more than once often involves a different mindset and the ability to let even more go. Glad you're working on this too!

  6. Oooh, those beaded buttons! You have some awesome talents! Thanks for the link shout out. I sometimes wonder after I ramble on if I've made any sense to anyone besides myself. Happy New Year!

  7. You definitely get to count those chairs which took up lots of precious space. Your beaded buttons are beautiful, fun and amazing! You are wise to have a table at your craft guild sale. JOYful January Dear.

    1. The chairs have been collecting dust for several years and now that we're not having family get-togethers they are no longer needed. Better our son get the fun of storing them! It will be interesting to see if I make any sales at the guild - will know in February.

  8. Why is re-homing the chairs not a January downsize? I think that's genius. I hadn't thought of taking my stuff to someone else's home and just leaving it. lol Okay, I know it was more intentional than that, but it made me laugh to imagine it. I did get two of my sons (who are roommates) to take a (incomplete) set of dishes with them on Christmas. They were happy to have some nicer dishes and I have a bit more space in my kitchen cabinet. Pictures of your downsizing isn't boring friend. It's inspiring. Visiting here has made me think I need to go right now (before jumping to somewhere else on the web) and sort through some boxes, the contents of which will either go into my craft room or leave the house. See what I mean? Inspiring!

    1. Well, to be truthful I DID ask our sons permission first! And just who has inspired who???

  9. Happy New Year Mary Anne! Have only just returned from visiting family in the UK for the New Year, so have missed a couple of posts! Love your beaded buttons and good luck with the decluttering! As it seems that decluttering seems to encourage the contents of the sewing room to expand to fill the spaces, I've decided just to leave well alone this year! I am wishing you luck and look forward to seeing the results!! Hugs Christine xx

    1. Oh no! Don't tell me the contents of my sewing room is going to expand! Scary thought.

    1. Glad you like the buttons - they're fun to do and better yet - they use up some bead stash (albeit not much of it!)

  11. I'm trying to play catch-up on blog reading these days. Renovations take up time. Lovely buttons. I spent time looking at today's links. Thanks

    1. Renovations do indeed take time, to say nothing about the mess you deal with while it's happening.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
