Block 5 - complete!

A few days ago I was showing my courtship blocks to a friend and she asked how many hours each block would take - and how much I would charge if I were to sell my work.  She was rather surprised when I laughed.  I knew she wasn't interested in commissioning a piece so I shared that each block takes me about two weeks to do - that would add up to five hours per day x 6 days a week = 30 hours (and that's a conservative estimate of the time).  Multiply that (at least in the case of the courtship project) by seven.  And that's just doing the blocks and not the finishing that's required.

Now, on to the last two fillers on Block Five....

And, here's the completed block..

Today your quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson... "Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine"

  2. What's all this shameless begging going on here?
Your work is lovely, you don't need to beg to be appreciated!
Just kidding, I hope your son and daughter in law's business does very well.
I like those ric rac flowers too.
    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Have just liked your son and daughter-in-law's page. =) Yes, we certainly don't do all that stitching to be paid handsomely for it, do we. The prices people pay for our stitching has always been a bone of contention for me.....but you don't want to know my thoughts on this subject....far too long and boring. More gorgeous stitching, Mary Anne. I am beginning to get excited to see the beautiful finished pretty.

  4. Your work is so intricate, I'm sure it takes much longer to complete than your conservative estimate. I like your kids' FB page. They do great work!

  6. Beautiful work Mary Anne. I find that most craft work takes ages to do and you would never be able to sell it for it's worth in time you spent doing it.
I've liked your son and daughter in law's page, I wish them a lot of success, they are certainly very talented.

  7. I just really like the way you use beads to create your flowers. Your designs are so pretty. I liked your DIL's page. I had no idea LIKING had an effect on how much a page is seen. The table runner in the link is fantastic. I'd give that a try if I had a place to use it.

    Have a wonderful week.
    xx, Carol
