Rust!

Here's a couple of experiments I'm doing to create some rusted fabrics. The piece on the left has a heavy cardboard tube in the centre, wrapped with steel wool, and then fabric. The other is a rusty metal pole the guys had lurking in the garage, also with fabric wrapped around it. Both were soaked with vinegar and set outside in the sun to 'cook'. The steel wool is rusting beautifully and is really showing a lot of colour. The other one, not so much. Today I went out and dosed them again with more vinegar, so we'll see what happens.

The fly influx seems to be abating somewhat, thankfully! At least I'm not feeling as though I have to continually look up for fear some are about to dive bomb me!!

  1. Wouldn't the vinegar rot the fabric? Maybe if you did it inside, the flies would leave?

  3. You're getting a great colour from the steel wool, but I bet when you unwrap it all it'll be the pipe you like best as there'll probably be more pattern evident... :-)

  5. Interesting. I want to try that sometime. I read your comment on Vicki W's post about homemade soap. I use mine in cold water and it seems to work fine.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
